Dear Families,
Lovely news. Shannon Minor will be stepping into Rachel’s position for the rest of the year. Perfect for us! She knows everyone - families, children and staff - as well as all the routines, so the transition should be easy peasy all around. She’s begun transitioning with Rachel this week.
Recess note: please be sure to send in rain gear so it is handy when it’s needed.
From Makai Nurok: I am doing a PYP Exhibition project right now. Exhibition is where 4th/5th graders research about the 17 UN Sustainability Goals. My topic is sustainable cities. My action project is a bike- to/from-school day to be held on 4/30/26 (5/1/26 rain date). Parents will need to bike with their child or identify a designated adult to accompany them. Permission slips will be going out April 27.
Act 1 - this coming week’s focus from Jackson Goscha:
K/1 will learn about bodies and body parts. Students will identify body parts and learn the proper names of the body parts so they can ask clearly for help from a trusted adult if needed. Students will also learn what is considered “private” and appropriate behaviors regarding private body parts. Students will learn to identify who can help if they ever need help with their bodies.
2/3 will also be discussing bodies and how all bodies are unique. Students will identify body parts and learn the proper names of the body parts in order to ask for help clearly if help is needed. Students will also identify and practice how to communicate with a trusted adult when questions about bodies come up.
4/5 will be discussing consent and asking for permission. Students will also discuss boundaries, defining their boundaries, how to maintain their boundaries, body language, and respecting personal space.
Link to an overview of Act 1 lessons.
VTCAP update: 4th graders have completed VTCAP! 5th graders have completed ELA and math sections and will do science next Monday and Tuesday. (We decided it made sense for them to take a break from testing before starting science.) 3rd graders will mostly be done with ELA tomorrow and will do math next Monday and Tuesday. We aim for everyone to be done by next Friday, 4/17
This coming week’s VTCAP schedule: Please avoid appointments and travel during these times. Rescheduling is hard on the students and a complex juggling act for the adults.

8:15-9:30 - Grade 3 VTCAP Math
9:40-10:50 - Grade 5 VTCAP Science
Tuesday, April 14

9:35-10:45 - Grade 3 VTCAP Math

Lunch help: We need a volunteer this coming week for Thursday. Please sign up directly on the April/May/June lunch calendar if you are available that day or for days in the future. It would be great to have the week after vacation filled in. Thanks so much.
