This week, our faculty had a little fun with an underground spirit week--- our own secret dress-up days for the adults! Each day, staff coordinated themed outfits without letting the students in on the plan, adding a little mystery and amusement to our routines. The creativity was on full display and was a great way to model the joy of school spirit in a way that kept everyone guessing! Did your child say anything to you about how teachers were dressing this week? Can you tell what our themes were? I wonder what tomorrow's theme will be........

Looking for a fun game to play with your child at home to practice literacy skills? It’s called ‘Story Builders’. Write down a few random words on pieces of paper (ex: dragon, school, mystery, etc.), throw words in a hat, and take turns drawing a word. Once you pick a word, you create a sentence (younger students) or a short story using that word. As they build their story, encourage your child to add details and try using new vocabulary. This game boosts creativity, sentence structure, and vocabulary while keeping things fun and engaging! (Beth LeDoux, Elementary Literacy Coach, ledouxb@mersd.org)
