Bellerive Bulletin
March 22, 2026
Dear Bellerive Families,
I hope your family had a wonderful Spring Break and found some time to relax and recharge.
We are officially in the 4th quarter and swimming the last lap to shore. This is a busy and exciting time of year, filled with field trips, Leadership Day, Field Day, and many opportunities to celebrate our students’ learning and growth. This stretch of the year is always special as we see how much our students have grown, both academically and as leaders. Thank you for your continued support.
Mark your calendars for Leadership Day on Thursday, April 15 from 4:30 to 6:00 pm! Leadership Day is less than a month away, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you. This is one of our biggest events of the year, where we shine a spotlight on our amazing student leaders. This year, it will also take place alongside the Spring Book Fair and the PTO's End-of-Year Picnic.
Every Minute Counts! Our school attendance goal is 95%, and we are currently at 94.6%. It was a tough winter with illnesses, and we’re hopeful those are behind us. We encourage all students to be at school on time and for the full day whenever they are well. Late arrivals and early dismissals can cause students to miss important learning at the start and end of the day and impact our overall attendance rate. Let’s work together to meet our school attendance goal and help all students see success at school!
Let’s keep the momentum going and ride the wave to a strong finish together.
In partnership,
Joey Kneer

Seasonal Allergy Info from Nurse O
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Seasonal allergies, also known as hay fever or seasonal allergic rhinitis, are allergy symptoms that occur during certain times of the year, usually when outdoor molds release their spores, or trees, grasses and weeds release tiny pollen particles into the air.
If your child tends to display severe allergy symptoms, please talk with your doctor to see if a daily non-drowsy antihistamine, nasal spray, or eye drop would be a good idea. School nurses are attentive to symptoms of runny nose, congestion, sore throat, headache, and cough as these are symptoms of allergies and colds as well as other viral and bacterial illnesses. The nurses follow a strict protocol to screen students and will determine if a child can stay at school, go home, or need to see a physician to be evaluated.
There is no real cure for seasonal allergies, but it is possible to relieve symptoms. Start by reducing or eliminating exposure to allergens. During allergy season, keep windows closed, use air conditioning if possible, and change your air filter often. It is also a good idea to give your child a bath at night if they have played outside that day.
At school, we are reminding students to wash their hands. In the nurse’s office, we can rinse the eyes if necessary with water and give a cold wet towel to place on the eyes for comfort. If a child is having an extreme reaction, they may stay inside, but this needs to be a temporary solution.
A child may stay in for no more than 1-2 days with a note from the parent. If the child must stay inside for a longer time period, we will need a note from the doctor. It is important for children to have time to run and play outside. The doctor's note can be faxed to the school nurse at 314-415-6059.
If reducing exposure to allergens isn’t possible or is ineffective, medicines can help ease allergy symptoms. There are many non-drowsy antihistamines, nasal sprays, and eye drops available as a prescription and over the counter. Many of these medicines can be taken at home once or twice a day.
** In order to reduce the severity of allergy symptoms in a person with known seasonal allergies, it helps to start the medication on a daily basis before pollination starts. This is much more effective in controlling symptoms than taking the medicine on an as-needed basis.
Please talk with your physician about what would be best for your child and remember that a consent form from the parent and a physician’s order is needed to give medications at school. The doctor can fax the order to the school nurse at 314-415-6059.
Sincerely,
Michelle Osterholt, BSN, RN, NCSN

Upcoming SEL Survey
As part of our ongoing commitment to student well-being, Parkway administers two social-emotional learning (SEL) surveys to students in grades 3–12. Your child completed this 10-15 minute survey in October and will complete the survey again during regular school hours during the window of March 23 through April 3.
Even though students in kindergarten through second grade do not take this survey, their teachers will complete a brief perception survey (as teachers at all grade levels do) to provide additional insight into their social-emotional strengths and growth areas.
This research-based survey helps us better understand how students are feeling about school, relationships, and learning so we can more effectively support their success. All survey responses are confidential and are only accessed by authorized school personnel. The data is never shared with outside parties and is not used to diagnose or label students.
To review questions that will appear on the survey, there is an FAQ page that also provides additional information requested by some parents last year. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Dr. Erin Schulte-Hamilton, Parkway's Coordinator of Counseling and Character Education, via eschulte@parkwayschools.net.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting every student's growth and success.
