2026 European Trip Update
We are excited to confirm that the European Trip scheduled for June 2026 is still on! At this time, we are in the process of transitioning to a new group leader. Due to Explorica’s policies, this process is taking a bit longer than anticipated. We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Beltran will be stepping into this role moving forward.
All teachers planning and attending the trip are certified educators who are committed to ensuring that every participant enjoys an enriching and memorable experience—one that students will cherish for a lifetime. Students who are interested in joining the trip may still sign up—it’s not too late to be part of this exciting opportunity!
Once Explorica finalizes the transition of the tour leader, we will schedule an informational meeting to provide updates and answer any questions you may have. Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm. We look forward to sharing an unforgettable adventure abroad!
Warm regards,
The European Trip 2026 Leaders
Aviators Program
The Capital City Young Aviators (CCYA) School Year Program is a five-part workshop series that lets students explore careers in aviation and related fields. A group of CAHS students, including myself, have been participating in these hands-on sessions held at Bolton Field on non-CCS attendance days. The workshops give us the chance to learn directly from aviation professionals and engage in activities like flight simulations and aircraft maintenance demonstrations. These photos feature only CAHS students who are part of this program (but there are others).

Ms. Stevens' PBIS Donors Choose Fundraiser
The PBIS and Patches project enables students to express themselves by selecting positive patches to decorate Trucker Hats. The patches express their identity, reinforce their positive behavior, and seek to honor their sense of belonging. At CAHS, we are constantly working to impact our students' sense of belonging in our community. This project is near and dear to my heart, as an alumnus, CAHS, was the place that uplifted and honored who I am. Positive patches like these will be used to decorate trucker hats
Thanks!

💡 Department Updates💡
Ms. Smith, Career and Community Resource Coordinator
All sophomores learned about Career Tech Education pathways the past two weeks during their English 10 Humanities/AP US History classes. Permission slips were passed out at the beginning of October during these classes and collected by the teachers.
Sophomores will visit Fort Hayes Career Center on Monday, November 10th and Columbus Downtown HS on Wednesday, November 12th.
The Career Tech Education Showcase will be held on Wednesday, December 3rd from 5:00-7:00pm at Columbus Downtown HS and Fort Hayes Career Center. More information will be sent once available.

Mr. McCoy, Health and PE
Thursday, October 30 the CAHS health classes visited The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center to explore career pathways in healthcare including; Respiratory Therapy, Nursing, Surgery Tech, and Imaging.
Mr. Richardson, Instrumental Music
Greetings from the instrumental music department. Our music ambassadors are putting in a lot of work performing throughout the city of Columbus. On October 25, we had orchestra cellist Sebastian Bray perform with The Chamber Music Connection at St. Johns Episcopal Church. The next day at The Ohio State University, Ruby Browning performed with The OSU Honors Orchestra. Later that evening, members of the jazz band performed at The Historic Valley Dale Ballroom with The Columbus Youth Jazz Ensembles. They were Jackson Sweeney, Ethan Kinney, Calin Rismiller, Parker Donavan, Natalie Miller, Ramona Kisbaugh, Sydney McMullen, Shane Kinney, and helping out was former jazz band member and current Capital University music education major Parker Wilkinson. I personally would like the parents who come out to the performances and support their kids. You are important to the program.

Nurse's Corner
In the month of October we had 39 students receive dental care through the first dental clinic and 38 students/4 teachers receive flu shots at our flu vaccine clinic.
Health Screenings Coming Soon
The school nurse will be completing vision and hearing screenings in the coming months for all 9th and 11th graders and students new to the district, as required by Ohio Law 3313.69. These screenings do not replace regular checkups with your child’s healthcare provider.
If you do not want your student to participate, please contact the school nurse at 380-997-3574 or tpeterson@columbus.k12.oh.us. Results will only be sent home if follow-up is needed.
Dental Clinic Information
School Smiles will be returning to CAHS on November 10, 2025, to complete any needed dental work and to provide cleanings and check-ups for students who were missed or absent during the last visit. If your child received paperwork indicating that follow-up care is needed, please sign that documentation and return it to the School Nurse as soon as possible.
If your child missed the first dental clinic and has not seen a dentist in the last six months, you can still sign them up for a cleaning and check-up by completing the online consent form at www.schoolsmiles.com/student-signup.
Nationwide Children's Partnership
We are excited to continue our partnership with Nationwide Children's Hospital (NCH) to provide transportation for students to clinic appointments during the school day. These appointments can include well-checks, sports physicals, work permit physicals, immunizations, asthma follow-ups, blood work, and specialty care referrals. If you would like your child to take advantage of this service, please contact your school nurse at 380-997-3574.
Illness Prevention
To ensure the health and safety of all students and staff, we ask that you please keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell. If your child must attend school while experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms, we strongly encourage them to wear a mask. Per school policy, students with a fever of 100.4°F or higher must remain at home for 24 hours after their fever has subsided. We also ask that you remind your children to wash their hands frequently, as this is the most effective way to prevent the spread of germs.
Thank you for your continued support in maintaining a healthy school environment.

🍎 District News 🍎
District Workshop Events
Thanks to all who attended the District Workshop Events held at South, West, and Mifflin. CAHS caregivers and/or staff were in attendance each evening to learn what we could about the decisions the district is facing as 50 million must be cut from the budget.
District leadership presented potential major changes in 3 categories: buildings/facilities, academic and career tech offerings, and transportation.
Here is a link to an article summarizing these workshop events:

What Will Happen to the CAHS Building?
Some of the common questions we are all asked repeatedly by our family and friends and we also are asking ourselves are: "When is the CAHS building closing?" "Where is CAHS moving?"
The Columbus City Schools website now has a link on their homepage called "School Realignment." This describes a three-phase plan for the buildings and schools in the district that are being closed or relocated. Work is happening now for two elementary schools in Phase I that will close at the end of this school year. This is the description for CAHS:
- Phase II (2027-2028): Relocation of Columbus Alternative High School from the McGuffey site.
