Help your student's return to school

After a few weeks of winter break, some students can find it challenging to get back on a school schedule. You can help with two very simple things over the weekend.

  1. Start today by having your student go to sleep at an earlier time and getting up earlier. This will help them on Tuesday when the have to get up very early to go back to school.
  2. Ask your student do some academic work over the weekend to get back into the mindset of academic engagement. Students can read a book or due academic programs like Freckle and IXL to engage their mind and be mentally ready for the worked asked of them on their first day back.
With your help, your student can get back into the school routine and academic work ahead.

Attendance Matters!

Did you know that regular school attendance is one of the most important factors in your child’s academic success? Missing even a few days can add up quickly and impact your child's learning. Help your child succeed by:

  • Setting a regular bedtime and morning routine.
  • Preparing school items the night before to avoid morning rush.
  • Scheduling appointments and vacations outside of school hours whenever possible.
  • Letting us know if your child needs to be absent due to illness.

Every day in class builds on the previous one, so consistent attendance helps your child stay on track academically and socially. Let’s work together to ensure every day counts!

Who do you call if your student has a conflict with another student?

Please call our office at 815.727.5276, and ask to speak with your student's Academic Advisor. At Gompers, the Academic Advisors work with all the students at the grade level and travel with them from year to year. This is done so they get to know the students well and can support them through the three years they are at Gompers. Like a dean at the high school, Academic Advisors manage 90% of the disciplinary issues, and are a great resource to parents on problem-solving most conflicts that arise. Call or email your Academic Advisor for help right away. They are here for you to help your student succeed!
