LAHSNews Feed 2/16/2021

Parents/Students,

As you know already the rest of this week will be distant learning. We know and understand that in times like this week that sometimes school is put at the bottom of the list. Please take care of your family first. Assignments are being posted on google classrooms. If students have power/internet and are able to work on school work posted for this week, it would mean less for the student to do later. That will reduce the stress and anxiety of feeling behind in school, which many of our students are experiencing. Remember this is a good time to turn in any missing assignments your teachers are allowing (follow the teachers late work policy); zoom with them to understand assignments or concepts. Just know that students are not the only ones affected by the weather. We are all experiencing rolling power outages, frozen pipes and trying to survive this next week.

Thank you to Mr. Kirkpatrick for posting check-ins with students. It has been awesome to see the student response. Know that Mr. Kirkpatrick, Mrs. Lampkin and Mrs. Harp are available. Of course, teachers are there as well.

Do try to enjoy this weather, get outside and play. Enjoy the family time, if possible. Remember students, we want snow day pictures! Upload them to Little Axe High School Google Classroom.

Please be safe, stay warm! We are thinking of our Little Axe families.

Continue to read all the way down. There are some new posts and dates. New scholarship opportunities. Hint, Hint...seniors...those that are college bound, use this week to get some submitted!

Helpful tips:

*Create an area in the home that the student can use to work.

*Make sure they have all the supplies needed.

*Have a daily schedule in place for your student.

*Take small breaks between subjects. Reward yourself with a snack for accomplishing work in a subject area. Remember, we get passing periods at school as our breaks during the day.

MATC & Concurrent

MATC students: Be sure to follow MATC and their updates. When we get notifications, they have been posted to our LAHS Facebook. Every student and parent should be getting either or all: phone call, text, email from MATC.

Concurrent students: Just because LA is distant learning this week, that does not mean your college class deadlines are being moved. Communicate with your instructor if you are having power/internet issues. If you are not, this is not an excuse, get your assignments completed and turned in. You are taking a higher education class. You are expected to act like it. Do not wait to communicate with them. In this case, it is NOT better to ask for forgiveness because it may not be given. We at LA do not have control over that.

Parent teacher conferences moved

This Thursday's parent teacher conferences will be postponed until next Thursday (2/25).

Graduation update:

Venue: Firelake Arena

Date: May 21st, 2021

We have to prepare for graduation as if it were right now. Everything is subject to change. Little Axe faculty and staff understands what a big, important moment this is to our seniors and families. We will do our best to provide a memorable graduation for everyone.

The plan as of today:

*Each senior will be allow four family members at graduation.

*Families will sit together. Seats will be in groups of four and every other row will be skipped.

*Masks will be required for everyone.

*Tickets will be given to each senior closer to graduation. (More information to come as we get closer)

If for some reason we are told by the city/state we can not have graduation at Firelake, graduation will be conducted like last year.

SENIOR ACT- March 2nd

It has been approved for seniors to take the ACT with the school for FREE in place of last years test. This is not considered a national test. If the college you have applied to requires a "national" exam (and they will tell you) you need to sign up to take the ACT at ACT.org, if you have not already done sone. Any questions...see Mrs. Harp.

For ALL military & Tinker civilian employees & their families

This message was sent to me from an employee at Tinker Air Force Base. This resource is for Military & TAFB employees and their families ONLY. Contact your boss for more information if needed.

- Mrs. Harp

2020 was without a doubt a year that presented new challenges in everything from how we live, shop, interact and how our school age children learn. School continues to be one of the primary concerns for our AFMC personnel and their families as we roll into 2021.

Tutor.com is a valuable resource we wanted to highlight which can provide help with both the K-12 and college settings as well as an at-home virtual learning environment. You and your family members are able to receive various services ranging from individual appointments providing step-by-step instruction or help with specific curriculum challenges..

Services can be requested by going to https://military.tutor.com/home and clicking on the link for “tutoring”. Access is provided free to all military and DoD civilian employees. Additionally, the Federal Education and Emergency Assistance program (FEEA.org) has scholarships, emergency hardship loans, disaster relief and discounted activities that civilian employees and their families can apply for.

Our workforce has demonstrated exceptional resilience and perseverance throughout 2020 and now into 2021. We encourage you to take advantage of the great programs like Tutor.com and FEEA.org to help ease the stress along the way.

ICAP

ICAP (Individual Career Academic Plan) is a program that the State of Oklahoma implemented a few years ago. Each high school student will need to complete this process using Okcollegestart.org.

Students have heard about ICAP through Advocacy's, e-mails, Little Axe High School Google Classroom. This is one reason it is imperative students login to their school accounts daily during the school week.

It is now required we record ICAP completions on transcripts for graduation.

9th grade ICAP completed.

10th grade ICAP completed.

11th grade ICAP completed.

12th grade ICAP completed.
