Battle of the Books
The statewide Battle of the Books program is designed to promote a love of reading among our students. It encourages students to read a variety of books and remember information about the plots, characters, and settings of the books. Every question asked in a battle is answered by the title and author of the book and takes the form of: Name the book in which a horse and a boy are stranded on an island. It is a fun, academic-based competition that has been very successful in school districts throughout the state in encouraging students to read.
The book list is available now and team registration begins in the middle of September. Check out the timeline here! Please let me know if you would like to help with this project. Perhaps we could incorporate this into WIN time once teams have been registered!
Scheduling
With this being said, I will be in the building every other day. I plan on viewing it as one building rather than two. This will allow me to go where you need me. I would like to thank Lori and Sandy in advance for their patience as we figure out how to make this work! In order for me to work with kids, they may need to float from building to building as well.

Collaboration with Schreiner Memorial Library
Currently a grant is in the works for the implementation of Maker Stations. If you would like more information about the Maker movement check out Make it at Your Library. Maker stations are a great way for us to individualize learning which naturally leads me to think of WIN time. I was able to visit Sector 67, a community hackerspace, this summer. The Bubbler at the Central Library in Madison is another great example of how we can incorporate STEM activities into our libraries.
Reps from the Library will be coming to school to help students set up libraries in their pocket. Once this happens I will encourage students to use their devices in the libraries to read. Until then we will have a no technology policy. I will be purchasing charging stations for students to charge up their devices during study halls and library visits. We are also researching tablet choices to use for tech activities in the library. Stay tuned for the this exciting change!
