Weekly Mill Creek SOAR'n Updates
Week of January 11, 2026
Message from Admin & MCI Weekly Updates
Dear Caregivers,
Report cards were sent home on Friday. We hope you had the opportunity to review and celebrate your student’s successes and progress. This week, families will receive parent i-Ready reports, which provide additional insight into your student’s academic performance. If your student is not currently performing at grade-level standards, you will also receive a letter outlining the specific interventions we plan to implement to support their growth.
We look forward to collaborating with you as we continue into the second semester and work together to ensure every student’s success.
Mrs. Beth McCoy, Principal
Mrs. Erin Butler, Assistant Principal

Mill Creek's Jump-A-Thon to benefit the Relay for Life
Mill Creek Intermediate's Relay for Life team is sponsoring a Jump-a-Thon to raise money for cancer. Each year we have several fundraisers to raise funds for the Relay for Life to give hope to those who need it most.
JUMP-A-THON DETAILS
Sponsors: Students will raise money by receiving pledges from sponsors for completing as many jumps as they can accomplish in 60 seconds. The amount raised is a set amount from a sponsor. For example, if your child is sponsored by someone for $10 then they collect $10 from that sponsor. We encourage you to ask for donations from family and friends. Students will receive sponsor sheets this week.
January 12-16: students will complete their jumps in PE class.
Prizes:
- For every $5 raised, a student will receive an entry in the GRAND PRIZE drawing. This year's grand prize will be a $50 Five Below gift card.
- For raising $100, the student will get 1 smencil coupon.
The donation form with all donated funds must be turned in on your child's PE day the week of Jan. 12. The latest money will be accepted is Friday, January 16th to be eligible for prizes.
We encourage sponsors to make checks directly to the American Cancer Society. All funds raised will go directly to benefit MCI's Relay for Life Team's efforts in raising funding for the American Cancer Society.

FREE Counseling Resources through the Cook Center
This is an EXCELLENT, FREE resource. The Cook Center provides support on topics like mental health, physical health, digital safety, relationships, and so much more. BCS highly recommends this resource and it's confidential.
Student Achievement and Accountablity
At Mill Creek Intermediate, we believe that students' success begins with taking ownership of their learning. When students develop responsibility by staying on top of their assignments, they not only build valuable life skills but also set themselves up for academic success.
To help foster this accountability, students will have two opportunities to complete any missed assignments. After these two chances, any remaining incomplete work will receive a zero. This policy is in place to encourage students to stay engaged with their work and take responsibility for their education.
Please know that our teachers are here to support every student. We are committed to working together to ensure all students succeed, but we also want to encourage the growth of independence and responsibility that will serve them well throughout their lives.
We appreciate your support as we guide our students in becoming accountable learners! You can help us support your student by monitoring grades and assignments in Schoology. If you need help with Schoology, please call the school and we will help support you.

Attendance Matters
Attendance Matters - Strive for 5
A goal of Berkeley County Schools’ Department of Attendance is to ensure every student attends school every day. School attendance has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is important for success in school and in life.
We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. But, we also know that when students miss too much school— regardless of the reason – it can cause them to fall behind academically.
- Families are encourages to STRIVE FOR 5! Miss less than 5 days per semester of school.
- Caregivers must send in a note for everyday their student is absent. When possible, please get a doctor's note. By policy, you are only allowed 10 parents notes per year. After those 10 are used, you will be required to obtain a doctor's note for absences to be excused.
- Berkeley County Schools no longer accepts a leave of educational value for excused absences. These absences may count toward the 10 parent notes.

Please note that you should not send time sensitive information through online platforms or email. Teachers may not get these notes while they are teaching. If you have information that is an emergency, please call the front office or send in a written note to your child's teacher.
It is vital that you set up your parent account. All parents will receive an individualized code to set up your student's account if you aren't already connected. YOU MUST LOG IN WITH YOUR PARENT ACCOUNT TO SEE TEACHER MESSAGES. YOU CANNOT USE YOUR CHILD'S ACCOUNT.
Schoology is also where you can stay involved with your child's academics. You will be able to see your child's grades, missing assignments and assignments that are due.

Please be prepared to show ID every day. IF YOU NEEED A PARENT PICK UP FORM, PLEASE CLICK BELOW OR EMAIL MRS. MCCOY FOR A FORM.
- Students Leaving Early: To prevent congestion in the office at dismissal time, students will not be allowed to be signed out between 3-3:25. What is the MCI SOAR'n Renaissance Program?
The Jostens Renaissance Program is a framework of culture where teachers love their job and students thrive in school. It is built on common core values and expectations. At Mill Creek, our Renaissance program is built around the core values of Safety, Ownership, Achievement and Respect. Students and staffulty will receive recognition and rewards when following these core values. Each day, our students will have the opportunity to earn a SOAR point based on these values. You can find the guidelines on the back of their daily folders.
