From the Principal's Desk
Hello Little Viking Families,
I wish a safe and fun Halloween weekend to all who celebrate! It feels like this year is flying by and I can't believe we are already in November.
Our students did an outstanding job with our fall reading BINGO incentive! We filled our tree and we are so excited to welcome author/illustrator Anitha Moorthy to our school next week! Read more about her below!
Right around the corner is Veteran's Day. Students will celebrate at school by making cards for Veterans and we will have a special assembly with a member of our military present to explain the different branches of the armed forces. We also like to acknowledge the veteran's in our own community who have served. So if you have a member of your family who is served or is currently serving in the military, please complete this form and we will include them on our Veteran wall inside the school.
And finally, we have seen a large increase of tardy students to school over the recent weeks. Please remember school starts at 7:50am. At the bell, staff at the front doors need to report back to their rooms for classes to begin. If your child arrives after 7:50 they will need to be signed in at the office. These first few minutes of school may not seem like a big deal, but for our littlest learners, the beginning morning routines are the most important to set the day up for success. Thank you for your help in getting your students to school on time and setting their day up for success!
Have a great weekend,
-Mrs. Scanlan

Weather Chart
Please remember to dress your students for the weather! We go outside whenever possible even in the cold and snow! The district uses the child care weather watch chart below when determining if the weather is too severe for outdoor play. Any time the temperature and wind falls into the red, students will have indoor recess. Yellow we still go outside but the duration of the time spent outside is monitored. And we always go out when in the green zone!
Whenever it is actively raining, students will stay inside for recess and play.
Author Visit
Author Visit - Anitha Moorthy
Anitha Moorthy is a local author/illustrator and a Salt Creek Parent! We are thrilled to have her visit Salt Creek School on Friday, November 7th, to give a literary presentation to our students. Ani is the author of “Tummy’s Best Friend” and “Knight of the Jungle.” Ani shares, “My journey into writing began when I became a parent and discovered that good stories often come from simply observing life and the world around us. I love creating playful, heartwarming stories that spark imagination and gently encourage children to be kind, stay curious, and eat healthy.”
Local Assistance
Dear Families,
We understand that with the recent government shutdown, interruptions to benefit programs and pay may be creating challenges for some families in our community. Please know that you are not alone and that our school district is committed to helping connect families with the resources they may need during this time.
Attached is a list of local supports that can assist with food access, meal programs, and other essential services. We encourage any family experiencing hardship to reach out and take advantage of these available resources. If you have questions or need additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact your school social workers or building administrators.
As always, our school community is here to support one another — especially during challenging times.

Lunch Balances
Overdue Breakfast/ Lunch Balances
Don't forget to check and pay any overdue lunch balances. You can check balances and pay on your parent Skyward account. You can also send cash or check payment to school with your child in a marked envelope with name and what payment is for. The office will then account for the cash or check payment on your student's Skyward.

I Love U Guys ❤️
Standard Response Protocol
Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.
Payments & Fees
In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.
Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
