What is Urban Education?
Defining Urban Education
We define urban education as teaching and learning in urban contexts that serve students who have been historically disenfranchised and traditionally marginalized by systems of inequality based primarily on race, ethnicity, culture, gender, social class, language, and disability.
What are you learning in UECP?
1. Understand the historical, social, and political factors that affect urban education
2. Learn about the challenges, needs, and assets of urban school
3. Learn the role of community in urban education
4. Examine misconceptions and biases that harm students in urban schools
5. Explore and create strategies to support students and teachers in urban schools
