The Academy Avenue Announcements
Dear Academy Families and Friends,
This past week was exciting with all the different activities going on. One in particular was the return of the pumpkins and poems contest! Each year, the competition gets better and better. Winners were selected by the mystery judges based on creativity and imagination by divisions Grades k-1, Grades 2&3, and Grades 4 & 5! The students received special prizes for their hard work and were recognized over the intercom system at the end of the day. Needless to say, we have some pretty talented kids!!!
Also this past week, our School Council met and discussed last year's MCAS data, student growth data (59 SGP) as well as other areas impacting the school and the work we are undertaking. One area we discussed was staffing shortages. This year, finding qualified staffing has remained a challenge. We are looking for a few good candidates to substitute and support our classes as well as looking to fill our school's building substitute position. Other times we may need a substitute cover cover for program and IEP meetings. If you or someone you know that is interested and would be a great fit at Academy, please have them contact the school office at 781.335.4717 or refer them to the Schoolspring (click here for a preview of the job post). The staffing support truly makes a tremendous difference.
Fall conferences are a few weeks away. If you have not completed the Parent/Teacher conference preference form yet, the link can be found in the button below. It takes less than a minute to complete. Our goal is to have 100% of families partake in the Fall conferences.
Lastly, with Halloween being tomorrow, please remember that students are not to wear costumes to school. Tomorrow is wear "Orange and Black" to school. While we held the Boo Mash Bash to celebrate the season and dressing up, we want to make sure the kids can have a relatively normal school day. We also want to make sure that for families participating in trick or treating that students go with a parent or guardian, wear reflective clothing, and remember to not bring any candy to school on or after Tuesday morning. We appreciate your support in this matter.
It's hard to believe that in a day we'll be saying, "Goodbye to October, hello November",
Mr. Higgins
