Principal's Message

Newsletter WEEK 6 TERM 3 2025

What a lovely Mass we had last Friday. Thanks to Mrs Dobson and her team for all their preparation. Our choir sang beautifully despite not having the accompaniment of the piano.

This week Room 5 were our Mini munchy makers. The pizzas they made were delicious. This is our last class to cook. The finals will be taking place one day very soon. A special thank you to Mrs Thomson, Mr Liley, Mrs Bowen and Mrs Norton who have all helped run this.

Thank you to Miss Weaven for organising and running the parent evening last week about the health units being taught. We had a very good turnout of parents at both meetings. Should you have any further questions about what is being taught in our health units, please ask your classroom teacher.

We are looking forward to seeing all our families at our Literacy Expo next Tuesday. It will be held in the hall from 3.15 to 5 pm. We will cover many topics about Literacy and Numeracy, and how they are taught at St Mary's.

We've had a busy week this week with children participating in Chess, the Tough Gal Guy Challenge and Gymnastics. It's great to see so many children involved in so many activities.

Have a great week.

Director of Religious Studies

Last Friday, we were delighted to welcome our new students and their families into our school community. Each received a set of rosary beads, which Pa Gerard blessed. We will continue to keep them in our prayers as they begin their journey. Thanks to all our whanau who joined us; we appreciate your support.

Sunday’s Gospel, from Luke, tells us that Jesus said to His disciples: ‘I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already burning brightly.’ When Jesus talks about fire, he doesn’t mean real flames. He is talking about the fire of God’s love, a love that is so strong it can change hearts and make the world brighter. Jesus wants this fire of love to spread everywhere. Sometimes, not everyone agrees about following Jesus. This is what he means by division. Some people will choose to live God’s way with kindness, honesty, forgiveness, and love, while others might not. This can even cause disagreements in families or between friends. Jesus reminds us that following him isn’t always easy, but it is always worth it. His love helps us stay strong, even when it’s hard. Certainly, some things to reflect on!

I hope you have a blessed week.

God bless

Lorna Dobson
