October Lifeline: Teamwork
"I am a helpful and contributing group and team member, and feel responsible for helping the team reach its goals."
What is Teamwork?
Teamwork means helping and caring for others so the whole group can succeed—whether that’s your class, your family, a sports team, or your friends. When you show teamwork, you do your part, try your best, and look out for the people around you. Good teammates are reliable, kind, and willing to work together to make things better for everyone.
Family Discussion:
Talk together about ways you can show teamwork in your everyday life.
Questions to Try:
What does being a good teammate look like at school?
How can we show teamwork in our family?
Why do you think teamwork makes things easier or more fun?
Dear Boone Meadow Families -
Can you believe we’re already nearing the end of October? Time is flying at The Meadow! We’ve had a wonderful first week back from Fall Break, filled with new learning, assessments, and plenty of reasons to celebrate.
Our 3rd and 4th graders completed their first round of ILEARN checkpoints, giving their best effort to show what they know. Classrooms are also diving into exciting new literacy modules, and students and staff are beginning preparations for our Veterans Day program.
Here’s a peek at what students are exploring in literacy:
Kindergarten: Once Upon a Farm — Life on the farm
1st Grade: Creature Features — Unique animal features
2nd Grade: The American West — Early American life in the West
3rd Grade: Outer Space — How we learn about space
4th Grade: Extreme Settings — How challenging environments shape people
It’s exciting to see our students reading, researching, writing, and building new knowledge! Families will also find assessment and screening information coming home, plus Quarter 1 report cards available in PowerSchool on Tuesday, October 27.

Counselor Corner: Big Feelings, Calm Bodies
October can bring lots of excitement, changes in routines (hello, Fall Break!), and big emotions! Children are still learning how to recognize their feelings and manage their reactions.
When feelings get BIG, help your child practice:
1. Notice: “What are you feeling? What is your body telling you?”
2. Pause: Take a breath, get some space, or use a calming strategy.
3. Choose: “What can I do that will help me feel better?”
Try saying:
- “I can see you're really frustrated. Let's help your body calm down.”
- “It's okay to feel angry. It's not okay to hurt someone.”
- “Would you like to take a break or take some deep breaths?”
Remember: All feelings are okay. Not all behaviors are okay. Our goal isn't to make big feelings disappear—it’s to help children learn what to do with them.
At home, practice calming strategies when your child is already calm. That makes it easier to use them when big feelings arrive!
Save the Date: Family Conferences Nov. 4th (after school) & Nov. 5th (e-day)
Please save the date! Conferences are a time to celebrate your child’s growth and partner together for their continued success. While these dates are set aside for formal conferences, know that our teachers always welcome your communication to support your child’s journey. Please don't hesitate to reach out to them to dialogue or share concerns and/or successes!
