Class Placements📝 Class Placements📝

As you are aware, class placements for September remain tentative due to fluctuations in enrollment, and classroom caps. As a staff, we have met extensively to ensure an appropriate and successful placement for your child. The process of student placement is one that all staff takes very seriously and there has been a great deal of thought and time invested in ensuring the best possible placement for your child’s success. Thank you to parents who submitted their written requests to the administration by the May deadline.

School Messenger will be communicating information pertaining to class placement over the long weekend beginning on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

Reorganization of Classes Reorganization of Classes

Possibility of Staffing and Classroom Changes

The beginning of each school year is always marked by unexpected changes which require all of us to be understanding, accommodating and flexible. The September school organization is based on projected enrollment prepared by the Board’s Planning Department. Such enrollment projections determine the number of teachers assigned to the school and consequently the grade and class configurations. In the event that student enrollment falls below or increases above projections, an adjustment to the number of teachers assigned to the school follows, which in essence may affect the placement of your child. Therefore, as we start the year, staffing is still tentative and until actual numbers are realized and assessed, reorganization of classes is a strong possibility. If we need to reorganize the school, you will be notified ahead of time if changes need to be made that will impact your child directly.

Safe Arrivals -- Reporting Student Absences 📲 📞 Safe Arrivals -- Reporting Student Absences 📲 📞

There are 3 ways to report your child's absence, late arrival or early departure:

  1. Using the Safe Arrival App (download from Google or Apple Store)
  2. Using the SafeArrival website, https://go.schoolmessenger.ca/#/home .
  3. Calling the toll-free number 1.844.435.3440 to report an absence using the automated phone system.

The above 3 options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Future absences can be reported at any time.

NOTE: For absences greater than five consecutive days, please call your child’s school directly.

Remember to: Please report absences in advance using SafeArrival instead of sending notes or calling/emailing the school.

Entry and Dismissal Routines 👣 🚲 🚗 Entry and Dismissal Routines 👣 🚲 🚗

Students are welcome to enter the school at 8:45 to 9:00AM.

Supervision is not available outside during this time and should enter the school readily to prepare for their school day. Students who arrive after 9:00am are considered late. Anyone arriving after 9:05AM will be delayed and will need to wait outside at the front doors during our sacred portion of our morning exercises (Prayers, O'Canada and Land Acknowledgement). The front doors will re-open after the morning exercises for announcements. Thank you for your support of preserving the importance of our sacred time at our school.

Kiss 'n Ride 💋🚗 Kiss 'n Ride 💋🚗

Thank you to all families for using the Kiss 'n Ride in an efficient safe manner to school.

Our school appreciates your cooperation in keeping our Kiss 'n Ride area safe and efficient for all families.

To help maintain this positive momentum and reduce congestion, we kindly ask that families comply with these important guidelines:

  • 🚗 Stay in your vehicle: Please do not exit your car while in the Kiss 'n Ride lane. If you need to assist your child, please park legally on the street.
  • 🧒 Quick drop-off: Ensure your child is ready to exit the vehicle promptly with their belongings.
  • 🚦 Keep the flow moving: Once your child has safely exited, please continue driving to allow others to drop off.
  • 🚷 No parking in the lane: If you need to walk your child to the door, please park in a legal spot on the street or park in the side parking lot; this includes kindergarten families.
  • 🕒 Arrive on time: Arriving earlier than 9:00am can help avoid the morning rush.

Let’s continue working together to keep our school community safe and respectful for everyone. Thank you for your support!

School Visitors 📝 School Visitors 📝

All visitors to the school are reminded that they must report to and sign in at the office when first arriving. Adults in the building who are not staff must wear identification stickers for safety reasons. To further ensure the safety of all students and to minimize the traffic in school hallways at arrival and dismissal times, we ask that parents meet their children outside of the school and away from immediate exit doors. Any student leaving the school during the day due to appointments, etc., must be signed out at the office.

Dogs on School Property 🐶🐕 Dogs on School Property 🐶🐕

Please be aware that dogs are not permitted on school property. If your dog is escorting you and your child(ren) to and from school, please make arrangements to meet your child(ren) at a safe location off of school property at the beginning and end of the day.

External Food Delivery Services 🚨 External Food Delivery Services 🚨

Outside Food Deliveries

We would like to inform families that outside food deliveries—such as Uber Eats, SkipTheDishes, DoorDash, or similar services—are not permitted at our school.

This practice has become increasingly common, and while we understand the convenience it offers, it raises significant safety concerns. For the security of all students and staff, we cannot open our doors to delivery drivers who are unknown to the school and cannot be verified. Limiting this access helps us maintain a safe and secure environment throughout the school day.

If your child forgets a lunch, you are welcome to bring it to the school lunch table. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep our building safe.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Agendas📅 Agendas📅

2026-2027 School Agendas will be provided to students in grades K to 6.

Agendas will be a tool used for communication with staff/parents and assist students in building organizational skills.

Please utilize the agenda as this is an efficient tool for quick communication.

*Discussions of a sensitive nature should be exchanged via the phone.

First Day Student Information Package✍🏻 First Day Student Information Package✍🏻

Personalized student verification forms and additional information and documentation will be coming home in the first day of school in paper copy form.

We ask that parents/guardians:

  • kindly review all information to ensure that it is correct and make any required updates directly on the forms

  • ensure that all phone numbers are accurate in the event the school needs to contact you

  • forward the verified and signed forms back to the school by September 11, 2026

The concussion protocol pamphlet will be included in this package. Please retain for future reference in the event it is required. Parents/guardians will be contacted by the school should your child sustain any head bumps or injuries during the school day.

Student Insurance Coverage 🚑 Student Insurance Coverage 🚑

Accident Insurance Coverage

As required by the Education Act and the Ministry of Education, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board annually provides parents with information about student accident insurance coverage. Although enrolment is voluntary, the DPCDSB encourages parents to take advantage of the insurance coverage, especially if their child/children participate in sports, excursions/field trips, or, if the parents do not have dental insurance coverage. Please refer to the pamphlet that will be sent home for more information. Parents alone have the right to insure their children. You may consider purchasing coverage for your child at www.insuremykids.com or by calling toll free at 1-800-463-KIDS (5437).

Emergency Drills 🚨🆘 Emergency Drills 🚨🆘

Throughout the year school personnel review safety procedures with the students on a number of topics. Emergency evacuation/fire drills are conducted to ensure that everyone is aware of the procedures to follow in order to exit the building safely. Our School Board has also established Hold and Secure and Lockdown procedures should a high-risk incident involving weapons occur on school property, that could endanger the lives and/or the safety of students and/or staff. We will continue to practice the Emergency Lockdown Procedures and Fire Evacuation procedures throughout the school year.

School Cash Online 💲💰 School Cash Online 💲💰

For safety and efficiency reasons, we would like to reduce the amount of cash & cheques coming into our school. Please join the thousands of parents who have already registered and are enjoying the convenience of paying ONLINE! It takes less than 5 minutes to register. Our goal is to reach 100% of our families using School Cash Online. We have found that School Cash Online dramatically increased the efficiency and security of money coming into the school, reducing much of the time required when dealing with money. Head Lice Awareness – What Families Should Know

Head lice (pediculosis) are common in schools and can affect anyone. They are not a health hazard and do not spread disease. However, they do require treatment to prevent spreading.

What you can do:

• Check your child’s hair regularly.

• Teach children not to share hats, combs, or hair accessories.

• If lice or nits are found, begin treatment promptly.

Students do not need to stay home beyond starting treatment.

Life Threatening Allergies

We would like to remind families that Mary Fix Elementary, is an allergen aware school. There are pupils in attendance who suffer from severe and life-threatening allergies to certain foods, such as nuts and nut products. Exposure to the smallest quantities can cause severe life-threatening reactions. The safety and well-being of all of our students is a priority.

We respectfully request that student lunches or snacks DO NOT contain any nuts, tree nuts, including peanut butter and substitute products. As there are communal areas of the school, nuts and nut products can not be brought to school even if there are no specific nut allergies within your child's class. Please note that additional allergies such as shellfish may be applicable to your child's class. A letter will be sent home to inform parents regarding class needs.

  • Please make sure that all of you children's caregivers are aware of the food restrictions.
  • To support, allergen awareness, sharing of food for birthday or special occasions at school is not permitted (inedible alternative such as stickers and pencils are welcome).

Any additional allergy concerns within your child's classroom were shared by the classroom teacher in September however this may change as student needs arise.

We appreciate your cooperation in supporting a safe learning environment for all pupils.

Asthma Awareness🩺 Asthma Awareness🩺

We Share the Air Campaign

We would also like to remind families that SFA school continues to participate in "We Share the Air", a scent sensitivity awareness campaign. There are students in attendance who suffer from life-threatening asthmatic conditions to air pollutants. Exposure to even minimal odours may cause a potential life-threatening reaction.

Very common triggers are: perfume, cologne, scented products, personal care, such as hairspray. The safety of our students is priority. In order to ensure the safety and well-being of all students, we request that our school community refrain from wearing scented personal products as much as possible, at school and all school events. We appreciate your cooperation in supporting a safe learning environment for all students, staff and community members.

Student safety is a priority at Mary Fix!

As per OPHEA Guidelines, students are required to wear running shoes during physical education classes, active outdoor play or participation in sports at recess. For safety reasons, students should not be barefoot, in sock feet or wearing Crocs/sandals to participate in sports or physical games/activities at recess. Cleats are not permitted for recess play. Crocs may be worn as indoor shoes but students must bring an alternative to participate in physical education or sports during the school day.

DPCDSB Dress Code 👚 DPCDSB Dress Code 👚

School Board Policy P-2006

A dress code refers to the standard of student dress which is respectful of the dignity of the human person and inclusive. In lieu of a prescriptive list, schools are reminded to communicate guidelines that ensure students are dressed in a manner which ensures that the top of the shoulders to the mid-thigh are not exposed.

The DPCDSB dress code will exclude any garments with messages containing or portraying any offensive and/or inappropriate content. Members of the DPCDSB community will not be permitted to wear attire that promotes: a) hate, b) discrimination, c) illegal activity, d) profanity, e) violence, f) political language, g) threats to health and safety, h) or content that contravenes the Ontario Human Rights Code.

As outlined in DPCDSB's GAP2012 Catholic Code of Conduct, student compliance with the school’s dress code is mandatory.

Cell Phone Use 📴 Cell Phone Use 📴

PPM 128

In accordance with PPM 128, all students must keep their phones powered off or on silent mode and out of sight for the school day, unless otherwise allowed by the educator during instructional time for a

specific purpose. Students are not to have their phones outside during recess or in any space that is not directly supervised. Intermediate students will have a designated space for their phones in their classrooms throughout the school day.

If you need to get in touch with your child during the school day, please contact the main office. Any personal electronics brought to the school will be the responsibility of the students to maintain.

Please review these rules with your child. We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a positive learning environment for all at Mary Fix CES.

Weather Conditions🌂💨🌞 Weather Conditions🌂💨🌞

Prepare for the unexpected! 🌂

To support student comfort throughout the school day and during outdoor recesses/play, students are encouraged to wear clothes based on the temperatures of the season. As per board protocols, students will spend time outdoors and should be dressed for hot or cooler temperatures.

Please ensure that all clothing is labelled and that students have brought in a change of indoor shoes for classroom use. Please note that in the event of an emergency/evacuation students will not have the opportunity to put boots on.

A extra pair of dry socks to keep in backpacks are often needed by even our older students! Rain boots are strongly recommended based on the weather.

As wet weather continues, our field area may be closed however students will have access to the pavement area.

Hot Weather Alerts😎🌞 Hot Weather Alerts😎🌞

As we eagerly enjoy the joys of hotter weather, we'd like to remind our school family to prioritize safety during these sun-filled months. Parents/guardians are encouraged to discuss the following with their children:

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you’re spending time outdoors. Be sure to bring a reusable water bottle!
  • Sun Protection: Use sunscreen with an appropriate SPF, wear hats, and seek shade to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
  • Heat Awareness: Be mindful of the signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. If you feel dizzy, nauseous, or excessively tired, move to a cooler place and seek help if necessary.
  • Outdoor Activities: Wear appropriate gear for outdoor recess and be aware of your surroundings to avoid accidents.

Let’s all do our part to make this warmer weather not only fun but also safe.🌞

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) is committed to the safety and well-being of all students. To support this, DPCDSB offers SafeVoice, a confidential Safe Schools Tool for students to share concerns about bullying, harassment, discrimination, or other issues.

Students can access SafeVoice from the DPCDSB homepage, the Student Portal, their school website, or directly at dpcdsb.org/SafeVoice. The form allows students to provide information about incidents they’ve experienced or witnessed, including details about who was involved and when and where it took place. Students may choose to remain anonymous or include their name and contact information if they wish to be contacted directly by a school administrator.

All submissions are reviewed by the school Principal and Vice-Principal, unless a concern involves a Principal or Vice-Principal, in which case it is directed to the Superintendent.

SafeVoice is one of the many ways DPCDSB works with students, staff, and families to foster safe, caring, inclusive, and faith-filled school communities.

If you need to share information about a crime, please contact Crime Stoppers, Peel Regional Police, or the Ontario Provincial Police.

Bussing Procedures and Eligibility Information 🚌 Bussing Procedures and Eligibility Information 🚌

Opt-Out Requirement

During transportation planning, STOPR assigns students to school buses if they are eligible for transportation in accordance with the transportation distance policies. Eligible students who do not require transportation services must opt out. This includes any regular or special education students who attend an after-school program such as the YMCA, have a babysitter in the walking boundary, or students who are consistently driven to/from school by parents or relatives.

If your child is eligible, but does not require bus transportation, please email the infobox @ MAFIXInfo@dpcdsb.org to let us know by Friday, September 11th.

Eligibility

Busing eligibility may have changed for your child. The distances to determine eligibility are set out by the Peel DSB and Dufferin-Peel CDSB.

You can access information about bussing by entering your child’s OEN (available on the report card) on the STOPR Website. ( https://businfo.stopr.ca/Login?ReturnUrl=/Subscriptions/ChildTransportInfo ) beginning August 31, 2026.

Courtesy Seating

Unfortunately, we are unable to entertain any requests for courtesy seats on the bus until the end of October. If your child is not eligible to ride the bus in September, please make alternate arrangements. Any courtesy seats will be assigned by the end of October. For more information regarding transportation, please visit the STOPR website at http://www.stopr.ca/Pages/default.aspx

BusPlanner Web Parent Portal

The STOPR Parent/Student Portal also known as BusPlanner Web (BPWeb) underwent a migration to enhance student bussing information security. Starting May 15, 2026 only parents / guardians who are registered at their child’s school as a custodial contact and have provided the school with a contact email address will be permitted access to student bussing information via the BPWeb Parent Portal.

What Does This Mean ?

For Parents/Guardians who are registered as a custodial contact with the school To access your child’s bussing information and to receive automatic bussing delay / cancellation notifications you are required to: a) If you have not already done so, provide the school with your contact email address prior to May 15, 2026 b) On or after May 15, 2026 you must register a new BPWeb account! • Go to our BPWeb Parent/Student Portal page • Select the “Create an Account” option to register a new account using your email address that has been registered with your child’s school c) Your child’s bussing information is automatically added to your account (this may take up to 3 business days from the date you registered with the school) d) Log into BPWeb and select the “My Students” option to review your child’s bussing information. e) Select the “My Subscriptions” option to review your delay notification settings and optionally add additional run / school-based notifications.

For Non-Custodial Parents/Guardians

You will not have access to student transportation information, but can still choose to receive bus/school delay and cancellation notifications:

a) Create a new BPWeb account

b) Select the “My Subscriptions” option

c) Add a run or school-based notification by clicking on the “Add Run” or “Add School” options

HFMD

Managing Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD)

Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) is a common viral illness that affects children and adults. It spreads through contact with an infected person’s saliva or stool. Outbreaks are most common in the summer and fall.

HFMD is usually not a severe illness. It can cause fever, small painful ulcers in the mouth, headache, sore throat, loss of appetite, lack of energy, vomiting, diarrhea, and, or a skin rash that looks like red spots, often appearing on the hands, feet and buttocks.

Regular washing of surfaces and avoiding close contact with infected individuals is the best way to prevent the spread of infection.

Children should stay home from school if they have symptoms.

For more information, visit the Canadian Paediatric Society

Get Your Child Protected This Fall 💉

School vaccinations (Meningococcal-C-ACYW-135, Hepatitis B, and HPV-9) are available when your child is in Grade 7. Vaccine consent forms were sent home to all Grade 6 students in April. If you have not yet returned the form, please complete, sign, and send it back to your child’s school as soon as possible. Please see the attached flyer for more information on vaccine consent forms.

Help Prevent Tooth Decay! 🦷

Oral health is an important part of a child’s overall health!

Did you know?

• Tooth decay is the most common childhood chronic disease in Canada.

• Untreated tooth decay may lead to pain and infection, which may result in difficulty eating, speaking and learning.

To help prevent tooth decay, encourage children to:

• Brush teeth at least 2 times a day.

• Floss every day.

• Visit a dentist regularly.

• Choose nutritious foods and make water the drink of choice.

Learn more about how you can encourage good oral health habits in children by visiting: https://cda-adc.ca/en/oral_health/cfyt/. For more information, call Peel Public Health at 905-799-7700.
