From School Administration
Dear Families,
We received Zum bus cards to distribute to our kindergarteners who are bus riders. They should be attached to the backpacks soon. Our bus riders use these to scan on and off the bus in the morning and afternoon. In addition, if your child (grades 1 - 5) has lost their Zum card from last year, please email your child's teacher so that we can order a new one.
Also, below is information about the Zum app which is very helpful for parents!
https://help.hcpss.org/how-do-parentsguardians-download-and-use-the-zum-app
Families of students who ride buses operated by Zum can utilize the Zum app.
To start using the Zum app, please follow these instructions:
- Download the app
- Log in to your account with the phone number or email address you have listed on your child’s record in Family File in HCPSS Connect
- Verify your access by entering the one-time code sent to your device or email
- Check your notification settings to ensure you’re receiving Zum notifications, if desired, so you’ll know when the bus is approaching and when your child has arrived at school
Using the app will allow you to track your child’s bus in real-time, receive pick-up notifications if you choose, and view the driver for each ride.
Thank you!
Michelle Leader, Principal
Jaime Gittleson, Assistant Principal

CCES Annual Trunk-or-Treat - Oct 24th, 5-7pm
It is time to get ready for our annual Trunk-or-Treat event at CCES! This is a community favorite and a special tradition for our CCES community. We need LOTS of family participation to help make this event great. Ways to participate include:
- Volunteer – We are looking for parent volunteers to help sell raffle tickets, serve as candy runners, and direct traffic before/during/after to make sure kids stay safe. Please consider giving an hour of your time to help make this a fun and safe event for all!
- Host a trunk – Sign up at the link below to host a trunk! Be creative and decorate a trunk as a candy station during the event. Those “trunking” can arrive at 4:30 to set up.
- Please note, no other vehicles will be permitted in the parking lot. Please consider carpooling, walking, or street parking.
- Donate candy – We’ll need plenty of candy to replenish our “trunkers” during the event. There will be a bin near the playground/blacktop. Drop off a bag of candy when you arrive.
Sign up today! http://bit.ly/CCEStrunkortreat2025

Donations we receive from the Read-a-Thon help continue to support the many events and initiatives the PTA sponsors throughout the year. Cub Scout Pack 618
Once in a while, we get lucky with a confluence of perfect weather, amazing people, and a lovely location for our Fall Camping Trip, and this past weekend did not disappoint. We had tasty meals, cool nights perfect for sleeping, fun times with friends, and we even got to crash a wedding during our hike! The only thing that could have made it even better? More scouts and more families, a.k.a. YOU! We're looking forward to November and our annual Rocket Launch, marching in the Veterans Day parade on 11/9 starting in the Merriweather District, and a campfire full of songs, skits, and jokes. It's not too late to join: we welcome all children in Kindergarten - 5th grade. If this sounds like something you want your kid to be a part of, email us at Cubmaster@pack618md.com or visit our website at www.pack618md.com.
