CHES CUB NEWS
OCTOBER 2026
A MESSAGE FROM MRS. WALBERT
Dear CHES Families,
We want to take a moment to thank you for all that you do to support your child and our school each day! 💚 As a friendly reminder, being on time for school and allowing your child to remain at school for the entire instructional day are both important parts of your child’s success.
When students arrive on time, they are ready to begin learning with their classmates and do not miss important morning routines, instruction, and directions. Every minute of the school day matters!
We also ask that families please avoid early pick-ups whenever possible. Students who leave early miss valuable instructional time and may miss important learning, classroom activities, or end-of-day routines. We understand that appointments and emergencies sometimes happen, and we appreciate your communication when an early dismissal is necessary.
Our goal is to provide every Cub with as much learning time as possible each day. Thank you for helping us protect that time!
Together, we can help our Cubs arrive ready to learn, stay engaged throughout the day, and finish each school day strong!
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

A MESSAGE FROM DR. TARASON
Dear Cub Families,
October is a wonderful time to remind our Cubs that being kind, making good choices, and taking care of ourselves and others are important parts of being CubStrong!
This month, we will continue focusing on social-emotional skills that help our students feel safe, connected, and ready to learn. We will talk about recognizing our feelings, managing strong emotions, solving problems, showing empathy, and treating others with respect.
Families can support these skills at home by asking questions such as:
- What was something that made you happy today?
- Was there a time you had to solve a problem? What did you do?
- How did you show kindness today?
- What is something you are proud of?
- Is there anything you need help with?
Please remember that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness. Our goal is for every Cub to know that there are caring adults at school who are here to listen, support, and help them grow.
Thank you for partnering with us to help our Cubs become Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn!
Have a wonderful October!
Your CHES School Counselor, DR.T.

A MESSAGE FROM CHOPTANK HEALTH
Healthy Students Are Ready to Learn
Dear Parents and Guardians,
A headache, toothache, anxiety, or an ongoing health concern can make it difficult for a student to focus in the classroom.
Our partnership with Choptank Community Health System helps enrolled students receive important health services conveniently during the school day.
Choptank Health’s School-Based Health Centers provide medical, dental, behavioral health, and nutrition services for enrolled students.
Depending on your child’s needs and the services available at our school, the care team can help with preventive care, minor illnesses, chronic health conditions, healthy eating, stress, emotional well-being, and more.
October brings added attention to dental hygiene, nutrition, and mental health, but these needs matter throughout the school year. Early support can help students feel better, miss less class time, and remain ready to learn.
Has your child enrolled in School-Based Health?
Enrollment does not replace your child’s primary care provider. It gives your family another convenient way to access care and support during the school day.
Learn more and complete the registration forms at www.choptankhealth.org/school-based.
Thank you for helping us create a healthy, supported school community where every student has the opportunity to thrive.

CogAT Testing is Coming! 10/19-10/21
The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) helps us learn more about how your child thinks, reasons, and solves problems. Students complete activities that measure verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal reasoning skills. The results provide teachers with additional information about student strengths and learning needs and are considered along with classroom performance and other student data.
Please help your child by ensuring they get a good night's sleep, eat breakfast, arrive on time, and do their best. We appreciate your partnership as we work together to help every Cub learn and grow!
