Brooke Means receives a Top Scholarship to Franklin College

I wish I could do this every day was exactly what I was saying to myself when Brooke was handed the folder that had her scholarship to Franklin College in it. This scholarship is a Presidential Scholarship with an additional amount on top of that and will cover almost 100% of her tuition for 4 years!! Thank you Franklin Representative Elliott Clark for coming to RCHS to hand deliver the news!! Brooke's parents Brad and Michelle Means were there to celebrate with their daughter in a moment that does not come around for many students. Thank you Brad and Michelle for raising such an amazing Human!! Congratulations Brooke and I know you will represent Rushville in the best way for years to come!!

ISTAR

We had three students and three teachers honored this week at the ISTAR banquet at Centerville High School. RCHS is one of eight schools that come together to celebrate students for their academic success, leadership abilities, and community involvement. Each student chooses a teacher who has most influenced them in their lives. Congratulations to Megan Alexander who chose Jill Carmony as her ISTAER teacher, Audrey Angle who chose Dr. Anthony Meek as her ISTAR teacher, and Trisha Morgan who chose Karen Brashaber as her ISTAR teacher. Six incredible representatives of RCHS!!

BISON AWARD

Our newest Bison winner is Jennifer Teague!!! Jennifer was selected by Karen Schneider who said this about Jennifer ". I want to nominate her because she sees greatness in EVERY student, and more importantly she helps her students to see greatness in themselves. She is also a support for those who have none. She excels at teaching academics in the classroom, but I admire her even more for the compassion, empathy, and help she provides for her students in order that they may grow and thrive, inside the classroom and in life. " Congratulations Jennifer a well deserved recognition!!

NEW COMPUTERS IN THE LEARNING COMMONS

The Learning Commons received an exciting addition this week! The student computers are all brand new thanks to the effort of the technology department. Stand in awe of those stunning 27" monitors, mind-blowing processing power, insanely good graphics, and massive hard drive space. A HUGE thank you to Mr. Runnebohm for making this a priority for our students. Another HUGE thank you to Mr. Hoeing for preparing and installing the new computers. It took a lot of work on both your parts and we could not appreciate it more! We are hearing nothing but positive feedback on these powerful units. Stop by the Learning Commons to experience them for yourself!

Physics Honors iFLY Indoor Skydiving Field Trip

Physics meets the thrilling experience of indoor skydiving at iFLY in Butler County, Ohio! This past Friday, my physics honors students experienced flying at speeds of ~100 mph in an enclosed wind tunnel (with proper training and supervision from a trained professional, of course). We learned exactly how the wind tunnel works, the engineering process it took to get to the current wind tunnel design, how to calculate our own terminal velocity (the maximum speed reached whilst skydiving) and even predicted the order in which different objects will fly based on mathematical relationships. The students had an amazing experience, especially with the high flight (in which we got to fly closer to the top of the wind tunnel - and yes - I did too!) and watched as the experts showed off their skills, flying to the very top of the tunnel! I look forward to taking next year's physics class on this field trip next spring!

FOODS CLASS!!!

I love when you can smell the food that is cooking all the way down the hall. That smell just draws you in and I had to visit this week. The Foods class was making churros and they smelled delicious. Unfortunately I had a meeting to get to so I did not get to taste any but I am sure they were amazing!!

FIRE AND RESCUE

Mr. Tracy was doing a drill this week in Firefighting class that was something that should seem obvious to practice but I never really thought of it. In a fire situation firemen often can't see the things they are searching for so they have to rely on their hands to find things in a smoky environment. The students were in full gear and blindfolded. They each had a separate object that they were to find that was planted in the room. These kids really take this seriously and they all through some guidance managed to find the objects they were looking for!!
