Woodland Families:
We are 2 weeks away from Fall Break, but there are so many things in store for our Eagles over the next few weeks. Make sure to note that Fall Picture Day is coming up this Friday! Make sure that your Eagle is dressed to impress and ready to show those pearly whites!
The Candy Drive continues.......which classroom will be the winner? The contest runs through next Tuesday, September 30th. We will announce the winner on October 1st. Remember that ANY bag of candy will help us out.
Please make sure to read the AP Announcement below. We are seeing an increase in those behaviors and support from home will only help to decrease those at school.
FALL FESTIVAL on October 2nd from 5:30-7:30! We will once again be having a pre-sale for Unlimited Bracelets for the entire Fall Festival. Check out the flyer below that is attached in the newsletter.
There are some families reaching out and asking about how their student can get recognized and earn Eagle tickets. The work they are completing is attached lower in the newsletter. I attach a grade level reading passage and math fluency sheet each week for additional practice for our Eagles. This must be done along with the weekly homework being sent home each week. See below for the earning of Eagle tickets.
Here's to another great week in the NEST!
Please make sure to reach out if you need anything! We are here to help.
Eagles Fly Because They Try!
Mr. Thompson
Principal - Woodland Elementary
Assistant Principal Announcement
Eagle Families,
We are dedicated to the safety and well-being of every student. School is a place where students should feel safe from threats of any kind of harm. We are committed to fostering a learning environment where all children feel secure, respected, and ready to thrive.
We want to take a moment to address an important concern: physical aggression, hitting, and horseplay on school grounds. While some behaviors may seem playful or harmless, they can quickly escalate and result in injury, emotional distress, or disruption to the learning environment. These actions are not safe and not acceptable in our school community.
Examples of unsafe behaviors include:
- Hitting, kicking, or pushing
- Roughhousing or play fighting
- Grabbing or physically intimidating others
These behaviors violate our schoolβs expectations for respectful conduct and will be addressed seriously. Students who engage in physical aggression or unsafe horseplay will receive consequences in alignment with our school and district discipline policies. This may include restorative conversations, in school removal, loss of privileges, parent contact, or other appropriate interventions.
We ask for your support in reinforcing these expectations at home. Please talk with your child about the importance of keeping hands and feet to themselves, using kind words, and seeking help from an adult when needed.
Together, we can ensure that Woodland remains a safe, welcoming place for every student to learn and grow.
Thank you for your partnership and continued support.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Precious Aubrey
Assistant Principal

Electronic Devices: Possession and Use
Found on Page 28 & 29 of the Student/Family Handbook
ELECTRONIC DEVICES
POSSESSION AND USE
Prior to entering the school building on a scheduled instructional day, all technological devices (cell phones, earbuds, headphones, smartwatches, etc.) are to be turned off until the end of the school day and placed inside the studentβs backpack. Students may retrieve their devices once they are in their vehicle to leave the school property or if their bus driver allows technology on their bus. Violation of this policy will result in the device being confiscated and turned over to an administrator. Failure to turn over the device will be defined as βdefiance of authorityβ and will be considered a behavioral violation.
β Devices shall not be used in a manner that disrupts the educational process, including, but not limited to, posing a threat to academic integrity, sending explicit sexual material, or violating confidentiality or privacy rights of another individual, is profane, indecent, or obscene, or constitutes/promotes illegal activity or activity in violation of school rules.
Devices shall be turned off and operated only before the student enters the school building and after the student is on their bus or in their vehicle at the end of the school day. When students violate this policy, they shall be subject to disciplinary action, including the possibility of losing the privilege of bringing the device onto school property. In addition, the device will be confiscated by a school employee and turned over to an administrator, and shall be returned to the parent/guardian.
If a second offense occurs, the student will no longer be permitted to bring the device to school and may face an additional disciplinary consequence.
β Students are solely responsible for keeping up with the devices they bring to school. The district shall not be responsible for the loss, theft, or destruction of devices brought onto school property.
β Students shall comply with any additional rules developed by the local SBDM Council concerning the appropriate use of other electronic devices.

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES
ALL STUDENTS EAT FOR FREE
FILL OUT THE CEP FORM HERE
I, myself, completed this form for my son that attends middle school and it took about 2 minutes to complete. This can help to ensure that all of our students continue to receive a free breakfast and lunch each day at school.
Last year Woodland was the first school in the district to achieve 100% of their families filling out the CEP form. We received an additional amount of funding because of this. We can do this! The link to the form is included right here.

TARDY TATERS ARE UP AND RUNNING!
We have filled up 23 Taters so far!
Each day a homeroom class has the opportunity to earn a Tardy Tater piece. How do they earn it? It's all tied into Attendance. Students must be present (not tardy) in order for the class to add a piece. After 10 day of only have one student missing from their class, the class receives a Tater Chip Party. We are wanting our Eagles to be at school each and everyday. We miss them when they are not here!
EARN EGGcellent EAGLE TICKETS
Students will once again be eligible to earn EGGcellent Eagle Tickets for work they do from the Reading Passages and Math Fluency sheets posted on the Family Newsletter. Students can simply get a note from a family member stating that they read the reading passage for the week. Students can also complete the math problems (show your work) on a blank sheet of paper and send those in as well. Please do not keep the printing from allowing your student to complete the work.
Students needs their first and last name and their homeroom teacher's name on their paper when turning these in. Can students complete work outside of their grade level? YES!
I will award students for grade level work that is either 1 grade level above or below the grade level that they are currently in.
For every Reading Passage a student reads = 2 EGGcellent Eagle Tickets
For every 10 math problems a student completes = 1 EGGcellent Eagle ticket
EGGcellent Eagle tickets will be drawn on Monday mornings this school year for a snack and prize.
Please put First & Last name, Homeroom Teacher
& NEWSLETTER to receive credit for Eagle Tickets

All family members can still download the app and see all things Woodland. If you find yourself having trouble with Rooms and need assistance, please reach out to us so we can help you. Please also make sure that your correct phone number is listed in Parent Portal so you receive the text messages that the district and Woodland sends out.

Here is a shortcut to all KY Academic Standards
in a Family Friendly format
All educators in the state of KY in the public school systems must use the Kentucky Academic Standards. All of the programs that we use at Woodland align to these standards. If you are ever wondering why your student is learning a specific skill or concept in their grade level, you can look to these for guidance.

It's my KIDDO's birthday! How can I celebrate?
Woodland does have a Wellness policy that is a SBDM (Site Base Decision Making) policy about no outside food coming in for birthday celebrations. We do celebrate every student in a monthly celebration on the last Thursday of the month. Students are given a treat provided by the cafeteria, we sing Happy Birthday, and each child gets a Happy Birthday pencil. If you would like to do something additional, please reach out to your student's homeroom teacher. You are always welcome to send in a trinket/prize/pencil for the students in the class. You can also contact the school and come and eat lunch with your student if you are able to do that. With the ever growing number of students with known and unknown allergies, we do not allow large batches of food (cupcakes, brownies, etc.).
Some suggestions in lieu of food:
- Stickers
- Glow bracelets
- temporary tattoos
- Bubbles
- Play-doh
- Side walk chalk
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Transportation Change Form

Want to be a VOLUNTEER?
If you are interested in being a volunteer, this video explains how volunteers can complete a background check (which they need per law and policy).
Some points of note:
- HCS will send a request for a background check to the Administrative Office of the Courts EVERY FIVE YEARS. The AOC charges the district a $10 fee for each check administered. We ask the volunteer to pay for that background check processing fee.
- We will only ask for a processing fee every five years instead of every year. We ask for the background check form to be completed each year in order to maintain a clear record of the current school year's volunteers.
- The background check will not be processed until the Superintendentβs office has received $10 for the background check and a copy of the receipt issued by the school. For instance, if an adult who has never volunteered becomes a volunteer in 2024, they will not have to pay for another background check until 2029.
