Message from the Superintendent
Dear Icahn Families,
As we enter the final month of the school year, I would like to take a moment to reflect on a strong and productive May, and to look ahead to a successful close to the year.
May was a critical month across all of our schools, and I am proud of the way our students and staff rose to the occasion. Our students approached the New York State ELA and Math exams with focus and determination, and we thank you for your continued support in ensuring strong attendance and encouragement at home during this important time. Fingers crossed, our students crushed these exams!!!
Even during testing, our classrooms remained focused on meaningful instruction, with an emphasis on writing, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Many of our schools also continued Saturday Academy and other targeted supports to ensure that all students received the additional help they needed. In addition, our schools hosted a variety of events and activities (Pep rallies, Teacher Appreciation celebrations, and Principal Appreciation Day events).
The celebration continues...
Throughout the month, our schools also took time to recognize and celebrate important cultural and national events. Students and staff acknowledged Cinco de Mayo through meaningful activities that highlighted history, culture, and traditions. We also proudly celebrated Mother’s Day, honoring the mothers and caregivers whose support, love, and commitment play such an important role in the success of our students. In addition, our school communities recognized Memorial Day, taking time to reflect on and honor the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country.
As we move through June, it is important that we maintain focus and finish the school year strongly. Teachers are working to ensure that all students have the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of key skills and concepts. We expect all students to remain engaged and committed through the final day of school.
Please note that our expectations remain high.
Daily attendance, punctuality, and respectful behavior continue to be essential. We also ask that students adhere to all school rules, including our expectation of no cell phone use during the school day. Consistency in these areas is critical to maintaining a safe and productive learning environment.
We thank you for your continued partnership throughout the school year. As we approach the end, I encourage you to stay in contact with your child’s school/teacher, monitor final assignments and grades, and continue reinforcing the importance of finishing strong. Your involvement makes a meaningful difference in your child’s success.
June is also a time of celebration. We look forward to honoring our students during upcoming graduation ceremonies and recognizing their hard work, growth, and accomplishments. These milestones are a reflection of the collective effort of our students, staff, and families. Please reach out to your child's school for celebratory dates and times.
This has been a year of growth, resilience, and achievement. We are proud of all that our students have accomplished, and we look forward to finishing the year strong together.
See you next month!
Thank you for your wonderful children.

June Is the Month That Brings It All Together for Our Icahn Charter Schools Community
June is the month we have all been working toward. There are celebrations coming, milestones to mark, and proud moments ahead for every family in our community. This is the time to lean in, not wind down.
Every child has something to celebrate this month. Children finishing kindergarten have done something remarkable. They came in not knowing what school would feel like, and they leave knowing how to learn, how to work with others, and how to keep going even when things get hard. Children moving into middle school are stepping into something new, and they are more ready than they know. And our 8th graders are graduating. They are still growing, still figuring things out, as all adolescents are, and they have reached a milestone that deserves to be celebrated.
June is also when the fun happens. Field day, field trips, and end-of-year celebrations are all part of this month. We want your children present and excited for every moment.
June is exciting. And June still requires your child to show up. Attendance matters all the way to the last day. Assessments, celebrations, and culminating events are happening right up until we close. Do not let your child miss it.
Here is how families can make June count:
- Keep showing up. Attendance in June is just as important as in September.
- Remind your child that expectations stay the same. The excitement of June is real, and we love seeing it. We also ask that every student continue to show up with the same respect, focus, and character that make our schools something to be proud of.
- Hold the routine. Bedtimes and morning schedules help children stay focused through the final weeks.
- Talk to your middle schooler about coming straight home. The weather is getting warmer, and the days are longer. If your child is traveling on their own, have a direct conversation about coming home first.
- Celebrate out loud. Name what your child accomplished this year and let them hear you say it.
- Talk about what is next. Ask your child what they are excited or nervous about for next year, and just listen.
- Get ready for summer. Your child chose their own summer reading book this year, and your schools will be sharing a variety of resources, ideas, and tools to help your family make the most of the summer months ahead.
We are proud of every child, in every grade, across all seven of our schools. It has been a great year, and this month is the perfect way to close it out.
