Dear Grace Families,
The Covid-19 Decision Tree has been updated again for K-12 schools by the HHSA, SDCOE, and authorities. Below we have simplified 3 common questions you may have and the decisions you need to make. Please read the complete Decision Tree HERE.
1) If your child tests positive for COVID:
- If any child/adult tests positive, the day they test positive is day ZERO (0). The day after that is day one (1). Your child should isolate and count out five (5) days.
- As long as they are symptom free, they may return to school without testing on day 6.
2) If your child has been exposed to COVID at school: (Exposure means that they have been in the same classroom as a person that has tested positive)
- Your family will receive an email notifying of the exposure date and next steps.
- Your child may attend school but should test on day three (3) after the person they were exposed to tested positive. (Day 1 is the day after exposure!)
- If they develop symptoms, they need to test for COVID BUT must ensure that they test at least 3 days after the date of their classmate’s reported exposure.
3) If your child is exposed to a COVID positive person at home: (Exposure means that they have been within 6 feet of a COVID positive person for longer than 15 minutes)
- As long as they remain asymptomatic (without symptoms), your child may attend school.
- They should test for COVID at least three (3) days after the person they’ve been exposed to tested positive. (Day 1 is the day after exposure!)
- If they begin symptoms, they need to test again for COVID.
