Family Engagement at P.S. duPont Middle School
Welcome!
Welcome to the new school year! As your School-Based Family Liaison at P.S. duPont Middle School, I act as a bridge between home and school to ensure every student has the support, resources, and environment they need to succeed.
Whether you need help navigating school programs, accessing community resources, or finding ways to get involved in school events, my goal is to build strong partnerships with our families and help our middle schoolers thrive. Feel free to email me at any time about anything! shannon.mckenna@bsd.k12.de.us
After School Enrichment
Middle school is a pivotal transition period where students develop their sense of identity, independence, and personal interests, making active involvement in school culture crucial to their overall development. Participating in extracurricular activities—such as sports teams, drama clubs, student council, or academic organizations—helps students build essential social skills, forge meaningful friendships, and cultivate a sense of belonging within the school community. Beyond the social benefits, staying engaged fosters accountability and confidence, which directly enhances academic performance and attendance. By connecting with peers, teachers, and school programs early on, middle schoolers build a strong foundation of resilience and leadership that sets them up for long-term success both in high school and beyond.
This Fall we offer the following athletics:

P.S. duPont PTA
Joining the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is one of the most effective ways to support your child’s development, stay informed, and strengthen the school community during these pivotal transitional years. Stay Connected and Informed: Middle schoolers often share less about their school day than elementary students do. Attending PTA meetings gives you direct insight into school policies, upcoming events, academic programs, and administrative updates. Build a Supportive Parent Network: It connects you with other parents navigating the unique challenges of raising middle schoolers, creating a strong community of peer support and shared experiences. Partner directly with Educators: Active involvement fosters open communication with teachers, counselors, and administrators, building strong relationships that help address student needs early and effectively. Support Recognition Efforts: Help our school celebrate staff and teachers with appreciation events throughout the year.

Title One
P.S. duPont Middle School is designated as a Title I school under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). As a Title I institution, our school receives federal program support to enhance student academic achievement and educational initiatives.
Additionally, P.S. duPont Middle School operates under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). Under CEP, our school is approved to provide free breakfast and lunch to all enrolled students at no cost, without collecting individual household meal applications. We are interested in parent feedback as we plan, as a school, for our 2026 2027 year and allocate funds for initiatives that impact student achievement and educational initiatives.
Our first community meeting will be on October 15th at 9:00AM in our cafe. Stay tuned for additional information as well as additional dates and times to accommodate our families challenging schedules!
