Week of March 9 2026
News from Mr. Stanislao, Principal
March 6 2026
Dear Roy Families,
There are some important updates below including IAR Testing, Picture Day, Band /Orchestra Parking
- Starting on March 9, 2026 and continuing through March 27, 2026, all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be taking the IAR exam (Illinois Assessment of Readiness). This test is taken annually by all students in Illinois as required by federal law and the Illinois State Board of Education. The Illinois Science Assessment will be taken by 5th grade students after spring break.
- It’s extremely important that ALL of our students in grades 3-5 are in school during this testing period.
- Parents, we encourage you to not make any appointments during this testing period.
- Students need to have their chromebooks charged everyday and a pair of working headphones to take the tests.
- Picture Day scheduled for March 10, 2026 is being rescheduled due to IAR Testing. A new date will be shared soon
For early morning band and orchestra rehearsals, car riders should drive to the MECC/Preschool parking lot, park in the middle of the lot, and have their child walk to the building from there. They enter at Door #13.
- Please make sure to park in the middle of the lot. Staff members park on the perimeter of the lot. Do not pull up and block the traffic coming in. We ask that you unload and then drive out the exit which is on the west side of the lot.
Sincerely,
Joe Stanislao

News from Mr. Hervas, Assistant Principal
March 6, 2026
Dear Roy School Families,
Our students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will begin the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) starting this week. This is a great opportunity for them to show how much they’ve learned throughout the year.
To help them feel their best, please encourage a positive attitude by reminding your child that you are proud of their effort. You can also support them by ensuring they get plenty of sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time. A calm morning routine helps students start the day feeling confident and ready to do their personal best.
Thank you for your partnership and for helping our students shine!
Your proud Assistant Principal,
Jorge Hervas Assistant Principal, Roy School

Dear Families,
To ensure a safe and smooth dismissal each day, we kindly ask for your help. If someone new or unfamiliar will be picking up your child, please call the school office before 3:00 pm to let us know. This includes any changes from your child’s normal pick-up routine.
If our staff does not recognize or know the adult picking up a student and we have not received prior notification, your child will be brought to the office by their teacher. We will then contact the parents or guardians to confirm who is picking-up the student.
Thank you for your support in helping us keep all students safe during dismissal.
Kindly,
Mrs. Rodriguez and Ms. Mendez
'25 - '26 News From Our Health Clerk
Hello Roy Parents,
We would like to kindly remind you that the weather is now changing and students should have a sweater or fall/winter jacket when arriving to school. If your student has borrowed clothes from the health office, we kindly ask that you send the clothes back with your student. We are accepting any uniform donations as well.
Kindly,
Mrs. Delgado

'25 - '26 Pet Reminder
Just a quick reminder. Pets of any kind are not permitted on school grounds during arrival and dismissal, which includes dogs and cats of any size. This is to protect the animal owner from any occurrences or issues. If you are walking your dog with your student during arrival and dismissal, you must stand on the west side of the sidewalk on Roy Avenue, north side of the sidewalk on Lyndale, and the south side of the side walk on Palmer. Thank you!
'25 - '26 Traffic Information
Parents and guardians, when dropping off in the morning and or picking up in the afternoon, please remember to follow all of the posted traffic signs as well as the directives from our D83 Crossing Guards. It has been brought to our attention that parents and guardians are parking in crosswalks and dropping off/pickup up students in the NO DROP OFF ZONE on the southeast corner of Roy and Lyndale. Parking is available on Lyndale, Dewey, and Palmer. These are two safety concerns that can lead to dangerous situations for our students and other pedestrians and simply, cannot continue to happen.
Roy Avenue in between Palmer, Dewey, and Lyndale is closed during arrival and dismissal. No car traffic. Parking is available on Palmer, Dewey, and Lyndale.
Abiding by these rules not only ensures the safety of our students but also promotes a smoother traffic flow during the morning and afternoon. We kindly ask for your cooperation in parking only in designated areas around Roy School when dropping off and picking up to maintain safety. Thank you for your understanding and support in making our school a safer environment for everyone.
