CSO Spring Cabinet Meeting

On March 14, 2024, the Centennial School District Chief Science Officers attended the Bucks County Spring Cabinet Meeting at Delaware Valley University. While here, students explored the campus of Delaware Valley University and learned about its STEM related offerings. CSO’s had the opportunity to talk with a panel of students attending Delaware Valley University and ask them questions about their majors (which included Pre-Veterinary, Equine Science, Zoology, Wildlife Management, and Agribusiness Management), and what led them to pursuing a field in science. Following this, CSO’s were provided with the chance to review and present their action plans from this school year. The meeting concluded with some STEM challenges. One challenge in particular included using pipe cleaners to construct the tallest possible tower. Through the duration of the challenge students had to communicate using methods other than talking.

Advanced Art Advanced Art

Students in Advanced Art at both Log College and Klinger are finishing their Claes Oldenburg-inspired cardboard sculptures. These Pop Art sculptures are inspired by objects that could be found somewhere around the school building, whether they are connected to a specific location/subject area or based on their teachers' hobbies and interests. Students reflected on their connections and relationships with teachers and staff in the building and selected locations around the school where they may be able to showcase their work. The sculptures required a great deal of planning, measuring, and cutting in order to build “larger than life” or, in some cases, a scaled-down version of the actual objects. Students honed their problem-solving skills to figure out how to bring their objects to life from their initial drawings and measurements. After weeks of hard work, the students are excited to add finishing touches to their sculptures!

Pre-Algebra Pre-Algebra

Students in Mr. Prusinowski's Pre-Algebra math class have shown amazing growth with their learning. They are currently working though solving & graphing one-step, two-step, and multi-step inequalities. Students are preparing both for the Math PSSA this year and putting in the prerequisite skill work for their high school Algebra I class at WTHS next year as 9th graders. The student work here shows attention to detail, proper use of inverse operations, and the neatness necessary for high-school success. Mr. P could not be prouder of these students.

Magic AI Magic AI

Letter to Parents/ Community

Centennial continues to lead Bucks County in AI exploration and adoption for administrators, teachers, community members— and now students!

Over the past three months, CSD faculty have been using Magic School AI to assist in administrative and pedagogical tasks such as differentiated lesson planning and project-evaluation rubric creation. Magic School tool use is averaging at least 30 uses per day across the district. This week, Magic School AI will launch Magic Student AI, a controlled AI environment for students to begin learning how to utilize chatbots to assist in their education.

Community feedback from our Sandwiches with the Supt event this past February overwhelmingly suggests that CSD has a responsibility to model safe and responsible use of emerging learning technologies such as AI.

Magic Student allows students to practice using AI to help improve their writing, provide work examples, and personalize their learning in a low-stakes, teacher-monitored environment. Access to Magic Student is not possible without a teacher-generated session and student inputs and outputs can be monitored by faculty in real-time. Only district-issued devices will be used to access Magic Student class sessions; personal devices will not be utilized with this technology.

Classroom discussions around the use of AI will highlight the importance of evaluating AI outputs for accuracy as well as maintaining academic integrity by acknowledging the contributions of AI to final products.

Please note that no student will be required to use AI technology for schoolwork. All assignments in which students can use AI technology are intentionally designed to provide students with the OPTIONAL use of technology. Students will not be penalized for completing schoolwork without the assistance of AI.

Additionally, parents may elect to opt their student(s) out of the use of Magic Student AI technology on their student-issued device. If you would like to opt out, please fill out the following form on or before Friday, March 22, 2024:

Magic Student AI Communication Opt-Out Log College MS

At Centennial, we take our responsibility to prepare our students for their increasingly digital futures seriously. With Magic Student AI, we can model responsible use of emerging learning technology and allow students to practice use in a monitored environment.

Winter Pep Rally Winter Pep Rally

Log College held a Winter Pep Rally on Monday to recognize all of its Winter season athletes and also to show support for our first home basketball playoff game in recent years. The pep rally was capped off by a students and staff 3-point contest, won by 7th grade student Gavin T. A fun event for all, we look forward to a great Spring as we move into our final phase of athletic competition.
