What do I need to do in order to tryout?
To be eligible to participate in tryouts, student-athletes must:
โ๏ธ Be academically eligible
(All incoming 9th-grade students are eligible.)
โ๏ธ Complete online registration through Arbiter Sports (Deadline is Monday, August 17th)
๐ www.OneDartmouthSports.org
โ๏ธ Submit a current physical examination
- Must be signed and dated by a physician
- Must clearly state clearance for athletic participation
๐ NEW THIS YEAR:
Families are strongly encouraged to upload physical forms directly into Arbiter Registration. This is the fastest and most efficient method for submission.
If you are unable to upload your physical, please email it to:
๐ง DoloresConsoletti@dartmouthschools.org
Athletic Trainer Kathy Thornton will contact families if additional medical documentation is required.
**STUDENT-ATHLETES WHO DO NOT HAVE AN UP-TO-DATE PHYSICAL AND/OR ARE NOT REGISTERED ON ARBITER SPORTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE**
Academic Eligibility Standards
To be eligible to participate in extracurricular clubs, activities, and interscholastic athletics, students must meet the following academic requirements:
โ Pass at least five classes with a grade of 65 or higher on your most recently published report card.
๐ Fall Sports Only: Student-athletes must have earned a minimum of five credits during the previous school year to be eligible for participation.
Participation & Tryouts
Dartmouth High School Athletics strives to provide participation opportunities for as many student-athletes as possible. Whenever feasible, an unlimited participation policy will be utilized. However, in some sports, it may be necessary to limit roster sizes to ensure the safety of participants and provide a quality instructional, developmental, and competitive experience.
Factors that may require a limited roster include:
โณ Nature of the sport
(e.g., golf, tennis)
๐๏ธ Available facilities, practice space, and scheduling limitations
(e.g., most indoor sports)
๐ฅ An exceptionally large number of students participating in tryouts
(e.g., 75 candidates for soccer)
๐ก๏ธ Safety considerations
(including appropriate student-to-coach ratios)
โฑ๏ธ Whenever possible, student-athletes will participate in a minimum of three tryout sessions before any roster decisions are made.
๐ Final roster compositionโincluding team size and personnelโis determined solely by the head coach and coaching staff.
Roster decisions will vary based on the unique needs and circumstances of each sport and are made with the goal of creating the safest and most successful experience for all student-athletes.
Be a good communicator
As the Fall season approaches, please remember that no issue or conflicting commitment is too big to be solved through communication and discussion.
If you have a conflict with an upcoming practice, tryout, competition, or team commitment, we encourage student-athletes and families to reach out to the head coach ahead of time.
โ Communicating early allows coaches the opportunity to understand the situation and work together toward a solution.
โ
Waiting until the last minute can make conflicts more difficult to resolve.
Our goal is to create a positive experience for all student-athletes while maintaining the expectations and commitments that come with being part of a team.
User Fee Payment
All members of Dartmouth High School interscholastic athletic teams are required to pay a $50 participation fee per season.

UNIFIED BASKETBALL
๐
First Practice / Workout
Unified Basketballโs first practice/workout will take place after Labor Day.
๐ More information, including the practice schedule and additional details, will be shared in late August.
All sport-specific questions should be directed to Head Coach John Breault:
CAPTAIN'S PRACTICE
The term โCaptainโs Practiceโ generally refers to team captains organizing and conducting out-of-season practices or workouts for their sport without adult supervision. The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association does not sanction, encourage, or condone โCaptainโs Practiceโ in any sport.
Dartmouth High School does not sanction, encourage, or condone Captainโs Practice.
Student-athletes may choose to get together on their own to train, condition, or participate in sport-related activities; however, these activities are not considered Dartmouth High School athletic events or activities. The school does not organize, supervise, host, or provide oversight for these gatherings.
Any responsibility, risk, or liability related to participationโincluding potential injuries, accidents, or other issuesโrests solely with the individual participants and their families.
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING
Dartmouth High School is excited to once again offer a comprehensive Strength & Conditioning Summer Program available to all current and future 2026-2027 DHS students โ free of charge!
๐ Location: DHS Fitness Center (A-Level)
๐
Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday
โฐ Time: 8:00am-10:00am
๐ Dates: Now through Friday, August 21, 2026
๐ซ No sessions will be held on holidays.
This program is designed to help student-athletes improve strength, conditioning, movement, and overall athletic performance in preparation for the upcoming school year.
SWAY MEDICAL
Dartmouth High School Athletics has adopted a baseline testing program to assist in the evaluation and management of potential head injuries. This program replaces Impact Testing and utilizes SWAY Medical technology.
The SWAY system combines objective balance and cognitive measurements to support healthcare professionals in making accurate and informed evaluations using only a mobile device.
๐ฑ How SWAY Works:
- Uses patented mobile sensor technology already built into smartphones and tablets
- Provides objective balance testing
- Evaluates cognitive function through quick assessments of:
- Visual processing
- Reaction time
- Memory
All new DHS student-athletes and current student-athletes whose baseline test was completed two years ago (results are valid for two years) must complete SWAY testing prior to participating in athletics.
๐ Summer SWAY Testing Information:
- Location: Dartmouth High School
- Duration: Approximately 20-25 minutes
- Supervisor: DHS Athletic Trainer Kathy Thornton
- Registration: Click here for SWAY Test Registration
SWAY is available on both Apple and Android devices.
Questions regarding SWAY testing should be directed to DHS Athletic Trainer Kathy Thornton at kathleenthornton@dartmouthschools.org.
