It's hard to believe that we are already heading into November. As we enter this time of year when the weather is wet and cold and it gets dark earlier each evening, don't forget to encourage your child to read. The single most impactful thing your child can do every day is to read. It doesn't matter whether they are reading a book, instructions to a game, information off a food box or reading the words in the world around them as they travel in a car. Exposure to text and to reading is the single most important factor in a child's success.
Calling all veterans!
Are you a veteran of the armed forces or do you have a family member who is a veteran? We would love to connect with you to help educate our students about your experiences.
If you are willing to connect and work with us to teach students about the armed forces as a veteran, please reach out to our Family Resource Coordinator, Eric Adams at eric.adams@bullitt.kyschools.us.
Lunch Visitor Reminder
We love having visitors join our students for lunch, however we must ensure we are following the state guidelines for food. Visitors are not permitted to bring outside food into the school cafeteria. Thank you for understanding.
We are hiring!
LJES is looking for a School Designated Guest Teacher (permanent substitute). This individual would mainly work at LJES, but if no sub were needed in our building that day, would be shared with other schools who are short staffed. If you or someone you know is interested, you can apply at the Bullitt County School website.
ID required for school events
We hate having to turn family away from awards ceremonies and other family events during the school day, but student safety is our first priority.
We are a Title 1 School
What does this mean?
A Title I school is a public school receiving federal funding through the Title I, Part A program of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. These funds are allocated to schools with a high percentage of students from low-income families to help raise academic achievement for all students, particularly those at risk of failing to meet state standards.
How does LJES use Title 1 funds?
Title I funds supplement, rather than replace, state and local funding and can be used for various activities, such as hiring more teachers, providing additional instructional supplies, implementing after-school programs, or supporting parental involvement.
Here at LJES, we use our funding to:
- pay for half of the school librarian
- hire an additional staff member to work with small groups throughout the school day
- purchase technology that accompanies our Reading and Math curriculum to enable teachers to plan and meet individual needs
- pay for staff to receive training to further their teaching skills and knowledge
