It Takes All of Us: A Community Approach to Attendance
The path to better attendance isn't walked alone.
Our students need the support of:
👨👩👧 Families
🧑🏫 Educators
🏢 Local businesses
🏥 Health providers
🚓 Community leaders
Let’s remove the barriers—together—so every student can show up, thrive, and discover what’s possible.
Because attendance isn't just about the classroom—it's about unlocking dreams. 💙

Congratulations! September Soroptimist Students of the Month
MARLEY CRONK
Congratulations to Marley Cronk, September’s Soroptimist Student of the Month! Marley is the daughter of Mandy and Michael Cronk and a senior at Sedro-Woolley High School. After graduation, she plans to attend Central Washington University to study primate behavior and Ecology, with a double major in Biology. She plans to pursue a Master’s degree as well.
Marley says CTE classes have helped shape her future career plans “by providing diverse courses. After taking almost half of the provided classes, I have found a passion in art and photography. I hope to intertwine this passion with my future career!” Marley enjoys volunteering with Skagit Trail Builders and hanging out with friends. Her favorite interests include art, music, concerts, video games, thrifting, and primates. One of her favorite quotes comes from Dr. Jane Goodall, a key role model in her life: “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” Congratulations Marley - we cannot wait to witness your impact on the world around you!
NATHAN GAHAN
Congratulations to Nathan Gahan, September’s Soroptimist Student of the Month! Nathan is a senior at Sedro-Woolley High School. He is the son of Tracy Gahan and has two older siblings. After graduation, Nathan plans to attend lineman apprenticeship school - something that his involvement in CTE courses has helped prepare him for. He says “the overall experience in all the CTE classes I’ve taken has made me more comfortable with what I’ll be doing in the future.“
Nathan is a Varsity athlete who plays football for the Cubs, wrestles, and runs track - making him a Triple Threat athlete at SWHS. His interests include outdoor activities such as hiking and watersports. He also attends a youth group with his fellow football teammates every Wednesday.
Nate, congratulations on all your achievements and this well-deserved recognition!
Taste WA Day Brings Local Flavors to SWSD Meals - October 9
On Thursday, October 9, Sedro-Woolley School District will join schools across the state in celebrating Washington-grown food during Taste WA Day, an event sponsored in partnership with the Washington School Nutrition Association, OSPI, and the Washington State Department of Agriculture.
Students will enjoy school meals made with ingredients from local farms, including fruit and yogurt parfaits featuring Grace Harbor Farms yogurt with berries from the Northwest Berry Coop. Elementary and middle school students will also be served beef soft tacos on tortillas made with organic whole wheat flour grown and milled in Royal City. All schools will feature fresh produce from local farms such as Viva Farms, Bellewood Farms, and Ralph’s Greenhouse.
This event also marks the beginning of expanded local purchasing efforts by the SWSD Food Service Department, supported by a $48,000 WSDA Farm to School Purchasing grant awarded for 2025–2027. These funds will help bring even more Washington-grown foods to student meals in the coming years.
For more information, contact the Food Service Department at 360-855-3515 or ajohnston@swsd101.org
Welcome New Staff Member Mr. Adamson!
Each year, Sedro-Woolley School District welcomes new staff members who bring fresh ideas, energy, and a passion for empowering students. From classrooms to support roles, they’re here to help students dream big, discover their strengths, and succeed. This week, we’re excited to introduce Mr. Robert Adamson.
Sedro-Woolley High School welcomes Mr. Adamson as a member of the special education team and a freshman homeroom adviser.
Adamson was the first in his family to graduate college. While there, an education class led him to volunteer at an alternative high school, an experience that “sort of opened my eyes to teaching as a future career.”
After working in the maritime and agricultural industries, he found his way back to education, first as a paraeducator and now as a teacher.
“To me, empowering students means helping them see just how capable they already are, giving them the confidence to take the lead in their own learning, and being able to show it in their own ways,” Adamson said. “It’s about cheering them on as they discover their strengths and helping them become their own best version of themselves. We are all teachers. We are all learners.”
In his role, Adamson said he hopes to empower students by “creating a supportive space where they feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions, and realizing mistakes are an important part of the learning process.”
He also encourages students to build connections and community, reminding them that “we often have more in common than we realize.”
Fun fact: Adamson was once responsible for the health and welfare of almost 100,000 chickens.
This school year, he said he is most excited about “building strong connections with my students and getting to know them as individuals. I’m looking forward to learning and growing alongside them, celebrating successes, and tackling challenges together as a community.”
Sedro-Woolley High School FFA Trap Shooting Team
The Sedro-Woolley High School FFA Trap Shooting Team offers students a unique opportunity to develop shooting skills, focus, and teamwork, while making lasting friendships. The team welcomes students of all experience levels — from complete beginners to multi-year competitors. Practices are held Mondays from 5 to 7 p.m. at Old Skagit Gun Club in Burlington, where students shoot in squads of five and choose how many 25-shot rounds to complete.
Sophomore Avery Lohman said he enjoys both the shooting and the camaraderie. “I like to shoot — shooting is fun. The camaraderie is pretty cool too. You get to be on a team, and people improve and get better,” he said.
Freshman Douglas Fraser said the team is welcoming to newcomers.
“You don’t have to immediately be good at shooting. You can start from where you are and work your way up. Everyone here is really friendly,” he said.
Senior Caleb Bethea, the team’s most experienced member this year, described trap shooting as “mostly a mental game” that requires focus, consistency, and proper breathing.
“Making sure you’re finding what’s working for you and then consistently doing that every time, every shot,” he explained.
Senior Hannah Silves highlighted the social aspect of the team.
“Hanging out with everybody and getting to shoot” is her favorite part of being on the team.
The FFA Trap Shooting Team competes throughout the fall and continues to welcome new members. Students say the sport is not only fun but also builds confidence, teamwork, and hand-eye coordination — skills that carry over beyond the range.
