Parents and Students,
Welcome back to a fantastic year. My name is Diane Barela and I am the principal of this awesome school. This is my 9th year as principal at Mesilla Park.
I am a wife and a mother of 3 wonderful girls. I also have a spoiled dog named Nala!
I love to camp , hunt, watch my girls play softball and I am PASSIONATE about my job!
This is my 24th year in education. I have been a teacher of Kinder, 1st, 2nd and 4th grades. When I was a teacher, I enjoyed working with students in the classroom and seeing how much they could learn and grow in one year. I absolutely loved to read stories to my students and have them write and draw about it!
As a principal, I find it fascinating to watch students grow and mature into Leaders. Students are so resilient and amaze me everyday. Our Nighthawk mission has been to support our community and pave the way to success. We strive to build positive relationships, focus on wellness, and show students that they CAN! We support our students where they are, recognize their strengths and build them up to be the best leaders they can be by reaching their full potential.
I am committed to fostering our core values of COMMUNITY, LEADERSHIP, and RESPECT.
I truly believe that if we show our students love, kindness, compassion and challenge them to meet goals, they will grow, and succeed. Our theme this year is SOAR to the Moon and Beyond.
I am committed to working with our staff, parents, and students. We will work together and support each other to SOAR!
I look forward to seeing everyone soon!
