WINTHROP WEEKLY
February 11th, 2026
Dear Families and Caregivers,
We made it! Our hallways were buzzing with excitement as we officially hit the 100-day mark of the school year. It’s incredible to look back at how much our students have grown, learned, and laughed since late summer.
To celebrate, our students took the "100" theme to new heights. From creating artwork using exactly 100 items. The creativity was on full display. These activities aren't just fun, they help our younger learners grasp math concepts like estimation and grouping in a tangible way.
Adding to the magic of the day, we were honored to host a guest author visit! Students had the opportunity to meet author and illustrator Juana Martinez.
Hear the author's personal story.
Ask questions about the writing and illustration process.
Learn what it takes to turn a small idea into a published story.
Seeing the spark of inspiration in the students' eyes during the session was a highlight of the day. We hope this encourages our budding writers to keep telling their own stories!
Finally, Friday February 13th classroom teachers have let students and families know if students are interested they can wear the color Red to help us celebrate Valentines Day.
Thank You,
Winthrop Administration Team
Dear Winthrop Families,
2025 Winthrop School Report Card
Every year, each public school and school district in Massachusetts receives a report card. Just as your child’s report card shows how they are doing in different subjects, the school’s report card is designed to show families how our school is doing in different areas.
A link to Winthrop’s report card is available at:
The report card includes multiple measures of a school’s performance – more than just MCAS scores. It represents a new way of looking at school performance, by providing information on student achievement, teacher qualifications, student learning opportunities, and more.
Report cards are designed to be useful tools for everyone connected to our school. Families can use the information to have meaningful conversations with us about what the school is doing well and where there is room for improvement. Community and education leaders can use the information to better understand how to support students and our school.
You will notice on our report card that we are making substantial progress toward improvement targets. To improve student performance in our school, we adopted a new English Language Arts curriculum at the elementary level that is aligned with the Science of Reading.
We continue to develop multi-tiered levels of support and intervention plans for students who are progressing below expected benchmarks. We encourage you to become involved in helping us improve our school. We see parents as critical partners in the success of our students and school, and we are grateful for your continued support.
Finally, if your child attends a school that receives federal Title I funds, you also have the right to request the following information about the qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers:
· Whether your child’s teacher is licensed in the grade levels and subject areas they teach
· Whether your child’s teacher is teaching under an emergency license or waiver
· The college degree and major of your child’s teacher
· Whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE
Dear Winthrop Families,
I am still seeing scattered cases of viral illness- typically presenting with cough, sore throat, and fatigue. The health room has been quieter this week (knock on wood!). Great job to everyone for washing their hands and helping to prevent the spread of germs!
Thank you so much for continuing to keep your children home from school when they are ill. This includes not only fevers, but also deep/uncontrollable coughing, diarrhea/vomiting, rash of unknown origin, and severe sore throat and/or headache. Please remember to use the Dismissal Manager or call the school to let us know your child will be absent. It is always helpful to send in a doctor's note if your child was seen. Students may return when they are fever free for 24 hours without medication and generally feeling better.
I am still in search of donations! We are in need of boys size pants, and new/unused underwear for boys/girls in all sizes! Thanks so much for considering 🙂
As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
Stay healthy!
