February 13, 2026
Greetings,
Our all-school trivia (Quizzo) competition was a great success! This was an idea we had to reward students for demonstrating positive behaviors (PBIS) and following our school’s core values of being Ready, Respectful, Responsible, and Resilient. After several rounds of competition, there was a tie between a feisty group of 8th graders and their 8th grade teachers from Team Odyssey. The tie-breaking round was captured by our Spartan Scoop TV crew and can be viewed by clicking on today’s 2/13 morning announcements. Spoiler alert: the tie-breaking question was about Taylor Swift’s Eras World Tour.
The second round of Students vs. Staff takes to the court next week for the annual Hoops 4 Hope fundraiser for Autism awareness. Students can still buy tickets for this fun event to raise money for a great cause.
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, March 4 and 5. Parent sign-up information and registration will open on February 18 around 5:00 pm. Keep an eye out for an email with sign-up links and information.
Please be sure to check out the full newsletter to learn more about events happening around The Lake, including pictures from Quizzo, Stringfest on 2/7 at Radnor Middle School, Kindness Week, Spring Sports Registration, Black History Month, course scheduling in March, and several PTG fundraisers.
A reminder that there is no school on Monday, February 16.
Wishing our Spartan community a Happy Valentine’s Day.

SLMS Course Selection and Scheduling for 2026-2027
Next up are the 7th grade students, who begin a similar process beginning the Week of March 9. This includes selecting their electives for 8th grade. Specific scheduling information will be shared with 7th grade families about the process.
For 6th grade, the decision is choosing a World Language for 7th grade during the week of March 9.
Spring Sports
Black History Month

In Math and Science, students will learn about notable Black mathematicians, scientists, and inventors through daily spotlights, research projects, and presentations that highlight their contributions to society.
In Social Studies, students will examine key historical periods and figures, including individuals at Mt. Vernon, Jackie Robinson and the impact of Jim Crow laws, and the Harlem Renaissance.

8th Grade Dance Committee
The Dance Committee is gearing up for planning this year’s dance on June 5th, and we’d love your involvement! Our next meeting will be held Tuesday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom. During this meeting, we’ll finalize the dance theme, form committees and select committee leads, and review the budget so planning can officially begin. This is a BIG undertaking and will require many volunteers. Thank you for any assistance that you can provide to make this event fun and memorable for our 8th grade students.
Parents interested in helping are encouraged to attend and complete the interest form ahead of time. Please also encourage your 8th grade student to vote for their favorite dance theme in Schoology before February 18.

French Club Celebrates La Chandeleur!
Last week, our French Club gathered to celebrate La Chandeleur, a beloved French holiday observed on February 2nd that marks the return of sunnier days and the approach of spring.
The highlight of the meeting? Delicious, traditional crêpes enjoyed the French way!
Students also discovered an interesting cultural connection: La Chandeleur shares the same date as Groundhog Day. Both holidays center around seasonal traditions and look ahead to brighter days, giving our club a fun opportunity to compare French and American customs.
Cell Phones and Electronic Devices
To keep classrooms focused and learning uninterrupted, all wireless devices, including cell phones, smart watches, earbuds, and similar devices, must be OFF and AWAY during the school day unless a teacher gives a specific academic reason to use them. Students will be reminded each morning to power down their devices.
Please let your child know that you will not be texting or calling during school hours. If a student needs to reach a parent, a staff member can provide permission. In an emergency, the main office is the best way to get in touch. More details are available in the Springton Lake Student Handbook.
Thank you for helping us create a safe, distraction-free learning environment!
