Save the Date to #readwithmp During the NEA Big Read

Celebrate poetry and the joy of sharing a good book during the Mineral Point Big Read in April. Together with the Mineral Point Public Library, Mineral Point School District libraries, and MultiCultural Outreach Center, Shake Rage Alley Center for the Arts is celebrating National Poetry Month with a month of activities focused on "Citizen: An American Lyric" by Claudia Rankine. Get a free copy of "Citizen" when the Mineral Point Big Read kicks off April 4 at the Mineral Point Opera House, and join us April 25 at a free keynote session featuring Rankine and Wisconsin Poet Laureate Margaret Rozga at the Mineral Point Opera House. For more information about upcoming events including book discussions, lectures, a companion film series, and art-making activities, see https://shakeragalley.org/big-read/.

Note from the Nurse....

With the increasing numbers of students experiencing colds and flu like symptoms, please be judicious when deciding if your child should attend school for any given day. Within the last two months we have seen an increase in flu like illness. The onset of symptoms are generally; sore throat, stomach ache and headache with mild fever. Any combination of these is the first indicator that perhaps "something is brewing". Often times students are returning to school too soon after illness when another day of rest is what is truly needed. I totally understand that this can be a challenge for parents as it relates to time away from your work.

Thank you for your consideration.

Last chance to clean out your shoe closet!

The Mineral Point Unified School District Wellness Committee is asking you to donate your gently used shoes to our shoe drive. The drive will end on March 6th.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Wellness Committee to increase awareness and factors contributing to physical and mental well-being, and to encourage others to make healthier lifestyle choices.

Shoes will be given to those in need in other countries.

How can I help?

  • Go into closets, storage, garages, and around the house looking for shoes that can be given away.

  • Make sure you have permission to give the shoes away.

  • Place them in a bag, but don’t forget to keep the pairs together by tying the laces, or rubber banding them together.

  • The gently worn, used, and new shoes should be in good condition with the soles intact, dry, clean, no holes, and still have life left in them. If you wouldn’t give them to a friend, then they are not worthy to submit.

  • Drop off at:

    Point Foods

    Ivey's Pharmacy

    MPHS

    MP Elementary

In the US alone, over 600 million pairs of shoes are thrown away per year. The materials

used to manufacture a pair of shoes are created from chemical compounds that will create health hazards if left to disintegrate openly or in landfills. By donating your gently worn, used and new shoes, your shoes are given a second chance to make a difference.

The 2020-2021 District Calendar is available here.
