A Message from Mrs. Milligan A Message from Mrs. Milligan

February Recap

We have exciting news for our Freedom community! On Monday, February 23rd, the West Fargo School Board approved a boundary change that will bring approximately 130 additional learners to Freedom next school year. Without this adjustment, our enrollment would have dropped to around 398 students, which would have meant losing staff. This approved change allows us to maintain our Title I status, retain our current teachers, and even add additional staff to support our learners. We are excited to welcome new students and families to Freedom and continue building our strong school community.

Look Ahead to March - Parent / Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences are right around the corner! Each conference is 15 minutes, which goes quickly. If there is a specific topic you would like to discuss, please reach out to your child’s teacher ahead of time so they can prepare and include any necessary team members.

A few reminders about conferences:

  • Teachers are not able to place learners in specific classrooms for next year.
  • Conversations will focus on your child and their individual progress.
  • Teachers may ask about:
    • Incoming kindergarten siblings
    • Potential moves
    • Summer school eligibility
    • Your child’s academic and social growth this year

We look forward to connecting with you and celebrating all the incredible growth our learners have made this school year!

Nurse Notes Nurse Notes

Illnesses made a comeback at Freedom this past month.

We follow the state guidelines for sending learners home. Learners can be in school with mild cold symptoms, stomachache, and headaches even though we know they are uncomfortable. We can do a temp check to rule out fevers. Learners should check in with a guardian before school and not come school when they feel ill to be assessed by the nurse or if they need medications before school to suppress symptoms. Parents should monitor their child for signs of illness each morning and keep them home until they are both fever free for 24hrs and symptoms are overall improving without the use of medications that may suppress symptoms. Learners who are symptomatic and report taking cough, cold, or fever reducing medication(s) before coming to school will be sent home.

Reminders Reminders

School Times

Learners should NOT be at school before 7:30 AM. We do not have supervision before then and the building will still be locked.

Learners should be dropped off by 7:50 AM. At this time, our first bell rings and students head to their lockers and classes to start their day.

The final bell rings at 8:00 AM and attendance is taken at that time. Students who are NOT in class at 8:00 will have to check in at the office for a tardy pass.

School dismisses at 2:30 PM.

Cold Weather Recess

Except in the case of very severe weather, learners will spend 20 minutes outside during the noon recess. Guidelines used to judge whether learners will go outside for noon recess are dependent upon the temperature and the wind chill as primary factors. The building administrator may make the decision to have elementary learners in grades K- 5 stay inside before school and/or during recess once the wind chill reaches -5° F. All learners will stay inside before school and/or during recess when the wind chill reaches -15º F. Principals make this determination using the National Weather Service http://forecast.weather.gov

Please make sure your learner has warm winter gear including jackets, snow pants, boots, hats and mittens. If you are unable to provide these, please contact your child's teacher and we will do our best to help.

We are NUT AWARE

Reminder: Freedom Elementary is a Nut Aware School. Please do not bring snacks and/or bag lunches with peanut butter or nut items.

No Birthday Treats

We also follow our school district's guidelines for a healthy learning environment. Birthday treats are not allowed in the classrooms. Classrooms will use activities to celebrate birthdays instead.

Drop Off & Pick Up

Please PULL FORWARD all the way and STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE when dropping off or picking up your child. This keeps the car loop moving and allows for learners to exit and enter vehicles quickly and safely.
