Thank you for registering for Get WalkIN’, an email based walking program that will start on April 3, 2026.

During Get WalkIN’, you will receive two (2) emails a week for the first month and then one (1) email a week for the reminder of the program. These emails will contain information to help you successfully start and maintain a walking routine. These emails, also will include several clickable links or attachments that give you the opportunity to explore more information. In addition, emails will include any local walking events in our area. These events are not required but just shared with you if you are interested in attending on your own.

As you lace up for Get WalkIN’, here are tips to keep in mind over the next several weeks:

Intro Survey Intro Survey

We also ask that you complete three (3) brief online surveys as part of the Get WalkIN’ program. These surveys will ask you about your physical activity and your experience with the program. The first survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete, and we appreciate your participation. Here is the link to the first survey: http://bit.ly/2v8C29Z. Please complete the survey in the next three (3) days.

Getting Started Getting Started

  • Walking is safe for almost everyone. Studies show that people with arthritis, high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease benefit from regular exercise and physical activity. In some cases, exercise can improve some of these conditions. You may want to talk with your doctor about how your health condition might affect your ability to be active.
  • Start slow and easy. If you haven’t gone for a walk in a while, walk only for 10 minutes to start.
  • Do some gentle stretching before, during, and after your walk.
  • Pay attention to your posture. Walk with your head lifted, eyes forward, and stomach pulled in.
  • Focus on your breathing. If you can’t talk during your walk, you are trying to go too fast. Slow down and take a few deep breaths. However, if you can sing while walking, you are not walking fast enough. Pick up your pace a bit.
  • Bring water, and wear a hat and sunscreen on sunny days.
  • On cold days, wear layers, a hat, and gloves. Your base layer should fit snugly to keep you warm and wick away moisture. Your outer layer should block the wind.
  • Wear a comfortable pair of shoes. If your shoes are new, break them in before you start walking.
  • Gradually increase the pace, distance, and / or frequency of your walk.

Walking Safety Walking Safety

  • Always wear bright colored clothing. Do not assume that you are visible to others or vehicles. Be cautious when walking.
  • Always walk facing oncoming traffic.
  • Use the sidewalk. If there is no sidewalk, look for a smooth, stable surface alongside the road. If there are guardrails, see if there is a smooth, flat surface behind the barrier where you can walk. If you need to walk on a paved shoulder, stay as far away from traffic as possible.
  • Be careful on bridges and narrow shoulders of the road.
  • Be sure drivers can see you. If you walk during low-light hours, such as dawn or dusk, be sure you have reflective material on your clothing or walking shoes, and carry a flashlight.

Date: May 16, 2026

Address: 409 IN-14, Silver Lake, IN 46982

Join the Lilly Center for a wildflower identification hike held on the beautiful trails at Wildwood Acres Land Trust. The Hike will be led by Gavin King, the regional manager for ACRES Land Trust, where he'll teach participants how to identify local wildflowers and plants.

The hike will take place on easy trails with minimal hills; however, comfortable, close-toed shoes are recommended as there will be a lot of walking. The Lilly Center will provide light snacks and identification books to borrow during the event. Spring is in full bloom, so let's celebrate its arrival by learning how to identify its lovely blossoms!

This event is underwritten by Depuy Synthes, Zimmer Biomet Foundation, and City of Warsaw Stormwater Utility.
