February 2023
A Message from Mr. Hartman
Greetings! Although February is a relatively short month, there are still a few events taking place that I’d like to draw your attention to. Later this month, we will be organizing our annual Food Drive, which is run by our student council (SPARKS). We will also have special dress-up days scheduled to help promote this event, along with a prize drawing to help inspire kids and families to donate. The food that gets donated will go to our local food pantry, which in turn helps local families in need.
Also taking place during the month of February is Bus Driver Appreciation Week. This week is an opportunity for us as a district to show thanks and appreciation to our bus drivers for their role in getting our students to school and back home safely each and every day.
Also taking place in the middle of February will be our second round of Parent-Teacher Conferences. This is a great opportunity for you to have in-depth discussions about your child’s progress academically, socially and emotionally. This is also a chance to talk about a plan for continued growth for your child over the course of the second half of the school year.
Lastly, preparations for Summer School have officially begun. The comprehensive summer school course schedule will be available for students starting in early April, at which time registration will begin. The summer session this year will run from June 6th – July 13th, with classes taking place on Monday – Thursday of each week.
Be well,
Josh Hartman, Principal

In February, classroom Guidance lessons will continue to be built around the Wisconsin Social Emotional Learning Competencies, specifically centered on the areas of Emotional Development (understanding and manage one’s emotions), Self-Concept (develop positive self-identity and recognize self as a learner) and Social Competence (establish and maintain positive relationships). We will focus our attention on relationships with peers, particularly discussing healthy social interactions and how to establish and maintain them. Learning how to identify possible choices and actions in given situations will also be a priority.😊 We will revisit the definition of bullying and the S.T.A.N.D. anti-bullying strategies to help ensure our school and community are welcoming and safe places to be.
BES welcomes Mr. Kyle Dachel back as a School Counseling intern for the next few months. He will aide in classroom instruction, small group facilitation and also be meeting individually with students as needed. 😊
Please check out the Bloomer Elementary Students Services website! ☺
Go to www.bloomer.k12.wi.us and click on Menu, then click on Student Services to be taken to the main page. Once there, click on the link for Elementary Student Services. Please explore the tabs for information and resources. Students may also have fun navigating Ms. T.’s Virtual Counseling Classroom! 😊 The Counseling department offers many terrific resources for parents covering a wide range of topics. Some of these resources are available for parents to keep and others are available for checkout. Featured resources this month include: Caring For Your Grieving Child: Engaging Activities For Dealing With Loss & Transition by Martha Wakenshaw, MA, After You Lose Someone You Love-Advice and Insight From The Diaries Of Three Kids Who’ve Been There As Told By Amy, Allie & David Dennison and Helping Your Depressed Child by Martha Underwood Barnard, PhD.
In February, we celebrate Valentine’s Day and President’s Day. These occasions allow for many fun learning experiences your family can share together! Leave love notes in your children’s shoes, lunch boxes or on the bathroom mirror, make heart shaped pancakes or simply say, “I love you because…” more often (write a new reason on a paper heart and stick it on your kiddos’ bedroom doors each morning). Find some fun facts about the President who served as our 8th President if your child is 8. Happy Valentine’s Day! 😊 “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” ~Mother Teresa
