Walpole METCO Program

Another successful school year has come to an end, and I want to congratulate all of our students on a job well done! Thank you to our parents, families, and guardians for your continued support, partnership, and dedication throughout the year.

As summer begins, I encourage everyone to take time to relax, recharge, and enjoy a well deserved break. Make lasting memories with family and friends and cherish the special moments that summer brings.

Have a safe, fun, and wonderful summer, I look forward to seeing everyone in the fall!

This year, the Walpole METCO Program proudly celebrates one graduating senior.

Please join us in congratulating her on this significant milestone and in wishing her continued success as she begins the next chapter of her journey. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors and look forward to seeing all that she will achieve!

Spring has been very busy and productive at Boyden and Fisher. Our students have enjoyed field trips, music concerts, end of the year projects, Teddy Bear Picnic, and Field Day. The final weeks of school were filled with fun activities, including "Anything But a Backpack Day" for our kindergarten students, a special Mystery Reader visit in second grade, and lunch groups where students enjoyed spending quality time with friends.

Congratulations to our three fifth grade students as they prepare to transition to middle school! We are proud of all they have accomplished during their elementary school years.

Our Middle School End of Year Celebration on June 4th was a wonderful success! It provided students with an opportunity to reflect on their accomplishments, recognize their growth throughout the year, and celebrate all they have achieved.

The final weeks of school were filled with exciting activities, including Field Day, which brought the entire middle school together for a day of fun, teamwork, and friendly competition.

Students also benefited from the opportunities to gather throughout the year in the METCO space after school for academic support, group activities, conversations, and time to connect with peers and staff. These interactions helped strengthen relationships, build community, and provide encouragement as students navigated the school year.

Congratulations to our two students who graduated from eighth grade. We wish you much success in High School.

In May, one of our Walpole METCO juniors had the opportunity to attend the METCO Directors' Association Senior Send Off Boat Cruise aboard the Spirit of Boston. This annual event celebrates graduating METCO seniors from districts across the state while also providing younger students with an opportunity to connect with their peers.

Due to extensive construction, renovation, and paving projects taking place at Walpole High School this summer, the entire campus will be closed to the public from June 29 through August 20.

During this period, there will be no public access to any part of the high school property, including:

• The high school buildings
• Athletic fields and grounds
• The track
• Tennis courts

For safety and security reasons, fencing will be installed along Common Street, and signage will be posted throughout the site.

Please note that the Walpole High School administrative offices will temporarily operate out of Walpole Middle School during the closure. In addition, Summer School programs will be administered at Walpole Middle School.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we complete these important improvements to our facilities and look forward to welcoming everyone back to campus in August.

I had the opportunity to attend the METCO 60th Gala, a special event celebrating 60 years of METCO's impact across the Commonwealth. The evening brought together alumni, educators, community leaders, and supporters to honor the program's legacy.

The gala featured remarks from METCO alumni, Co-Chairs Ronnie DeVoe of New Edition (Newton METCO ), Nia Grace (METCO alumna), and Marvin L. McIntyre (Lexington METCO). The event was hosted by NBC10 Boston's Latoyia Edwards and included a heartfelt tribute to METCO's longtime leader Jean McGuire.
