BACK TO SCHOOL - AUGUST 2023

Dear Parents and Students,

In this newsletter, you will find information about summer band camp and things you will need to start the school year. Our band website is getting a new look, so you may notice some changes over the next few weeks. If you ever have questions about band, please contact me. Summer Band Camp

All 7th and 8th grade band students that have completed at least one year of band are encouraged to attend Summer Band Camp* at MVMS. Please fill out this SUMMER BAND CAMP SURVEY whether or not you plan to attend.

Band Camp Dates:

Friday, August 11 (2-4pm) - Crazy Sock Day!
Monday, August 14 (2-4pm) - Crazy Hat Day!
Tuesday, August 15 (2-6pm; 5:00pm performance for flight camp) - Spirit Day - Wear your HAWK BAND shirt and blue jeans!!!

If you need to check out a school instrument for camp, please come at 1pm Friday, August 11.

What to Bring:

INSTRUMENT (if you have one)
BAND BINDER (Black ,1", 3-ring binder)
PENCIL(s)
ACCESSORIES (drum sticks, mouthpiece, good reeds, ligature, valve oil, neck strap, etc.).
SNACKS (bring one package of individually wrapped, store-bought snacks to share with everyone)
WATER (in a bottle)

*Camp is NOT for Beginning Band Students and is OPTIONAL (but strongly encouraged) for Advanced Band Students. Camp will take place in the MVMS Band Hall. You must have your own transportation to and from MVMS.

Band Supplies

All band students are expected to have instruments, books, and all supplies by the first day of school. In addition, students will need to provide a combination lock for their band locker.

(FOR ALL BAND INSTRUMENTS)

Instruments that are usually purchased or rented from a music store are:

flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, and trombone

(The school has limited number of these instruments for those who express a need. You must contact the band director in writing if this applies to you.)

Instruments that are usually provided by the school are:

oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, tenor/bari sax, horn, baritone, tuba, percussion

(Students should still provide their own reeds, mouthpiece, drum sticks, and other supplies.)
