Mundelein High School's CCRC Updates!
Upcoming College Visits at MHS!
Reminder - submit BEFORE next Friday for November 1 deadlines!
Don't Delay - Systems Crash, and Saturday Support Won't be Available.
We strongly recommend submitting your applications before deadlines and not procrastinating, but this year this is particularly important as November 1, a very common deadline for Early Action, falls on a Saturday. It is in your best interest to have everything submitted before October 31 if at all possible! Don't let Halloween be extra scary this year!
Supplements May Be Required.
Many colleges have additional requirements that must be completed after you have submitted. Pay attention to any follow up emails that you receive and be sure to log in to your portals to complete any necessary additional steps, like submitting your self reported records!
It's Time To Follow Up With Recommenders!
If you have requested letters of recommendation from teachers, you should be monitoring the progress of the letters in SchooLinks. If you notice that your letters have not yet been submitted and your deadline is coming soon, it is a good idea to check in with your recommender and remind them of your upcoming deadline date.
To review the progress in SchooLinks:
- Select College
- Select College Applications
- Switch the toggle on the upper left from "Board" view to "List" view
- If you see an open red circle under the recommenders column, you haven't yet invited a teacher
- If you see an orange icon under the recommenders column, you have invited a teacher but they haven't submitted your letter yet
- If you see a green checkmark your recommender has submitted your letter!
This same checklist applies to the counselor document column where you can see if your transcript has been sent. If there is more than one icon on the counselor column, go back to the "Board" view and select the pencil icon to see what additional items the college is requesting from your counselor. Frequently, this will be a midyear transcript. This will remain incomplete until these are available in mid-January and is not a requirement of the initial application.
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
Completing the FAFSA, Alternative Aid Application, or a waiver, is an Illinois State graduation REQUIREMENT!
Class of 2026: The 26-27 FAFSA is open! Keep in mind that each contributor (student and one or both parents or stepparent, depending upon circumstances) will require their own Studentaid.gov ID, available here. This should be created at least 3 days before completing the FAFSA.
Every Wednesday, our ISAC representative Denver Keske is available in person at MHS to work with our students and parents, right here in our CCRC! She is also available virtually at many other times. Please see the ISAC Room in the MHS Virtual CCRC to find her scheduling links!
Remember that about 270 undergraduate institutions also require the CSS Profile, which also opened on October 1. It is crucial that our students not miss their financial aid deadlines, which will vary by institution and application round.
If you haven’t yet, we strongly encourage you to look at the resources in our Paying For College virtual room. In this space you can also access our FAFSA page for helpful information on completing your FAFSA. We also have access to past presentations (if you missed them) in our Resource Library.
Please review THIS DOCUMENT for more information about this Public Act. Check out our FAFSA Mandate FAQ to find some answers to frequently asked questions.
