Celebrating Juneteenth and Pride Month
DDSD Family,
As we approach the end of another school year, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our incredible teachers and staff. Your hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our students have truly made a difference.
As we step into June, a month brimming with opportunities for learning, growth, and connection, I also want to take a moment to shine a light on two incredibly important cultural and heritage observances we celebrate:
Juneteenth โ June 19th
June 19th is a time to honor Juneteenth, a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. This day marks the pivotal moment on June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, delivering the news of freedom to the last enslaved people, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth reminds us of the long struggle for freedom and justice, and the resilience and strength of the Black community. It's an opportunity for our entire DDSD family to reflect on our shared history, acknowledge the profound contributions of Black Americans, and recommit to the ongoing work of racial equity. We encourage everyone to learn more about the significance of this day by interacting with the presentation that the Ventura Park Equity Team put together. Thanks VP!
Pride Month โ June 1-30
We also proudly celebrate Pride Month throughout June, a time to honor the LGBTQIA+ community and recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and other queer individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally. Pride Month is a celebration of love, acceptance, diversity, and the ongoing fight for equality and human rights. It's a moment to uplift the voices of our LGBTQIA+ students, staff, and families, and to foster an environment where all identities are not just tolerated, but truly celebrated and respected. We invite you to join us in learning more about the rich history and vibrant contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community. Check out this presentation Alice Ottโs Equity Team put together. Thank you, Alice Ott!
Let's continue to work together to cultivate a district culture where every identity is seen, valued, and celebrated. Thank you for all you do to support equity and inclusion in DDSD.
Thank You,
Ken
Spring Report Cards
Please reference this email for Semester 2 Report Card Resources.
The purpose of the DDSD Spring 2024-25 Elementary Report Card Guidance is to provide reminders and support that includes information and guidance for each of the sections of the elementary report card. This is intended to be a self-guided walkthrough that can be done independently or as a team. Please be sure to read the speaker notes that are included on some of the slides. These notes can only be accessed on Google Slides on your computer rather than on a cell phone. The Elementary Proficiency-Based Report Card Teacher Manual is another critical resource for completing the report card. Here is a shortcut to the Teacher Manual: DDSD Report Cards Supporting Documents.
Please note that Report Card comments will be translated. For guidance, please see slides 23-27 on the DDSD Spring 2024-25 Elementary Report Card Guidance.
The comment templates for translated comments will be used again for Semester 2 comments.
Resources for families (including translated resources) can be found on the DDSD District Website: David Douglas District Website (found on slide 28 of the DDSD Spring 2024-25 Elementary Report Card Guidance).
Timeline for completing and mailing report cards (found on slide 29 of the DDSD Spring 2024-25 Elementary Report Card Guidance).
June 12th & 13th
Teacher workday: Teachers complete Synergy report cards
Print report cards and resources and stuff envelopes (see guidance for stuffing envelopes in the notes on slide 29 of the DDSD Spring 2024-25 Elementary Report Card Guidance)
By June 18th
Report Cards are picked up in the pony to be delivered to D.O. for postage and mailing.
Field Day - June 12
Field Day will be the last day of school, June 12th.
K-2 (9:30-10:15)
3-5(10:30-11:15).
See below for the Schedule for the day.
Thank you for being out with your classes and helping out where you see a need.
Matt is also working with PTA for station volunteers.
Set up help and breakdown help is also needed.
If you are free the morning of Friday the 12th before students arrive, I would love some extra help setting up/breaking down. The same goes for after the event.
June 12th and 13th - Last Day for Teachers
Friday, June 13th, is the last day of the school year for teachers. It is set aside as a teacher workday. However, if staff can complete all of their end-of-year tasks and check out prior to June 13, they do not need to report on June 13. You will need to check out with Soule or Lower prior to leaving.
