The Principal's Perspective
It's Officially FALL!
New Season New Ideas!
We are officially into the Fall season and how exciting! It's actually my favorite time of the year- who doesn't like sweater weather (did you say that in an accent LOL)?? The days get shorter and the nights get longer and of course, this will impact all of us. In thinking about our students they may need that extra push of energy as the lack of sunshine does make us all behave differently. But, this is a great time to let the soon to come crisp air into their bedrooms. As the weather cools, make room for the fall and winter clothes while also presenting the perfect time to purge and donate, organize and clean. What does all of this have to do with success in school? Well, this means re-shifting focus knowing that seasonal change means going with the flow of change and for the fall- watching the dead things leave. Letting go of habits that do not allow for growth and opportunity while improving upon positive habits and encouraging our students to make good choices by: challenging themselves in class by asking for leadership opportunity, reading and following the news and talking about current events in social studies, practicing their instrument, art, dance, or sport for an extra 10 minutes, throwing away the garbage in their lockers, not bringing their phone with them to the dinner table so that they can tell you how their day went and setting one resolution for the season. We hope this new season brings you joy, warmth, and peace.
Thank you!
Thank you, thank you to all of the parents who were able to make it to curriculum night. Thank you for all of your positive feedback. We know you could have been anywhere else, yet you sacrificed your time to be with us and we appreciate it! Here are the links to the presentations in case you were unable to attend. Also, please fill out the evaluation form located below. Your voice is very important to us.

MTSS
We will be entering what is called Cycle 1 of our MTSS on September 30th, which stands for Multi-Tiered System of Supports. Based on student performance on our diagnostics and their performance in class, this week we will sit down and determine which students need an intervention for this cycle, which could mean an accelerated support as well. There are 3 tiers in MTSS. Tier 1 refers to all students receiving our core curriculum, Tier 2 are students who get additional support during WIN time and Tier 3 are students receiving intensive supports both in and out of the classroom. Depending on the need of the student, their support may look different than another student. Getting tiered support is NOT something that should be seen as a negative, but rather the identification of a need and the fulfillment of that need. This link is a great resource for understanding MTSS. https://ilmtss.niu.edu/family-engagement-2/mtss-for-families/
InstaHeritage
The many flags that make up Latin X Countries
Latin X Countries
Hispanic Heritage Month
Mrs. Olvera had a fun activity for students, an Insta Heritage project where students were learning about Hispanic Heritage(en Espanol) in her 8th grade class. It is great to see students learning about the rich Heritage and cultures that make up the Latin X Community. We will continue our various celebrations/learning activities throughout the month and through to October 15th.

The Release of The Perspective
Moving forward, The Principal's Perspective will not be able to be released on Fridays. In learning the many nuances of Nichols, Fridays have become a very busy day with meetings also being held after school. There never seems to be enough time in the day, unfortunately. With that being said, work/life balance for me has required a shift as to when the Perspective will come out. Moving forward, please note that The Perspective will be released over the weekend, typically on Sundays. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding in the matter.
Still Looking for Volunteers
We have one volunteer who has offered to help for a couple of Mondays! YAY!! We hope to have some more volunteers to help at the corner of Sherman and Greenleaf. Please contact the main office if you can do this between 7:40 am-8:05 am and 3:05 pm to 3:15 p.m.
