Dear Prairie View Families,

Welcome to May! It’s hard to believe we are in our final full month of school, and it is sure to be one filled with exciting end-of-year activities and special moments for our students.

We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of our amazing community and our fabulous PTO. Because of your generosity and commitment, our students will have the opportunity to participate in several wonderful field trips this month, experiences that help create lasting memories and bring learning to life beyond the classroom. Thank you for helping make Prairie View such a special place for our Hawks!

We are also looking forward to celebrating those who give so much of their time to our school at our Volunteer Breakfast on May 14th. We truly appreciate all that you do to support our students and staff.

There are many exciting events ahead! Our fifth graders are working hard to sell popcorn to fund their fifth grade BBQ. Popcorn will be passed out on Friday May 15th! Our DLC Field Day is on May 15th, and our third graders are busy preparing their “Who Was” projects, which we can’t wait to see come to life. In addition, our first, second, and third graders will participate in Fire Safety learning on May 20th, providing important, real-world knowledge in an engaging way.

With only 28½ days until summer, we know this month will fly by! We are also beginning the process of building classes and finalizing enrollment for next year. If you have a parent concern regarding placement, our "purple forms" are available in the office through the end of the month. After this time, classes will be finalized and lists locked away for the summer. For now, our focus is to make the most of every moment! Continuing to learn, grow, celebrate successes, and finish the school year strong together.

Thank you for your partnership and support. It truly makes a difference for our students each and every day.

Most Sincerely,

Rachel Schuerman
Proud Principal | Prairie View Elementary

May PACE Character Trait May PACE Character Trait

We are continuing to implement PACE Character Traits through the entirety of the school year! We have already had several wonderful lunch celebrations, where families were invited to join us as we honored our PACE recipients. It has been such a joy to see students recognized for the kindness, leadership, and positive choices they demonstrate every day. We are so proud of our Hawks!

At Prairie View, we believe that character counts. We are committed to nurturing the qualities that help students grow into kind, capable, and future-ready citizens. Each month, we highlight a PACE Character Trait, such as respect, responsibility, caring, and honesty. Teachers and students nominate individuals who consistently model the trait of the month, and we come together to celebrate them during our special lunchtime celebrations. These moments allow us to build community, reinforce positive behavior, and remind our students that who they are matters — not just what they learn.

We cannot wait to continue celebrating our Hawks as they soar with character through the year!

The character trait for the month of May is - COURAGE! Courage is being brave and doing something difficult or scarey, even when you feel afraid. It is not about having no fear, but rather moving forward to do the right thing or trying something new despite feeling nervous. It means having the "heart" to try again, speak up, or face challenges.

We’re excited to introduce “Wear It Wednesdays” at Prairie View! Each Wednesday, our staff will proudly wear college, trade school, and military gear to spark conversations about future-ready pathways with our students. This is a fun way to inspire kids to think about their futures and explore all the possibilities that lie ahead. Students are encouraged to join in the fun by wearing their favorite college, trade school, or military apparel too — let’s make Wednesdays a day to dream big together!
