District Announcements
HCS Introduces 10-Year Proposed Capital Plan
Huntsville City Schools is introducing a proposed 10-year capital plan to positively impact the future of education across Huntsville. This plan is an investment in the success of our students, teachers, and staff members by outlining our vision for the maintenance, enhancement, and expansion of school facilities.
The key goals of the capital plan include supporting teaching and learning, optimizing facilities and infrastructure, and reimagining Magnet programs.
While the plan is guided by the above three key goals, HCS leaders will be hosting a series of community meetings where they will discuss specific plans for each feeder pattern. District leaders invite students, families, employees, and community members to attend these meetings to learn more and provide feedback on the capital plan.
To view the proposed plan, visit huntsvillecityschools.org/capital where we also invite you to share your thoughts and provide feedback.

DAC Application Window Extended Through April 12
Huntsville City Schools and the United States Department of Justice are seeking applications from students and parents/guardians to serve on the 2024-25 Desegregation Advisory Committee (DAC). The DAC consists of 10 parents/guardians and 6 high school students, one from each high school. Students serve a one-year term.
The DAC serves as an important role in the desegregation case and in the community. Huntsville City Schools is working with the United States Department of Justice to implement a Consent Order in its school desegregation case. The Consent Order establishes a pathway for Huntsville City Schools to provide equitable educational opportunities to all of its students, regardless of race, and to eventually reach "Unitary Status". Implementation of this Consent Order touches on almost every aspect of Huntsville City Schools. The DAC provides feedback to the Superintendent about Huntsville City Schools' implementation of the Consent Order by collecting community comments and other information pertaining to Consent Order implementation. The DAC also informs the Court of Huntsville City Schools' progress by completing a report for the Court. In addition, the DAC annually presents its findings to the Huntsville City Schools Board of Education.
The 2024-25 DAC application window has been extended through April 12, 2024. If you are interested in serving as a member of the 2024-25 DAC, we welcome your DAC application!
