Principal's Message Principal's Message

As we continue through the winter months, I want to remind families of the importance of sending students to school dressed warmly each day. Coats, hats, gloves, and other cold-weather items are essential, especially in the unlikely event of an unexpected emergency that would require us to exit the building during cold weather.

Student safety is always my number one priority. As part of our mid-year work, I have been reviewing our safety plans and procedures to ensure we remain in a strong position. I am continuously monitoring the building, meeting regularly with staff and safety teams, and making ongoing improvements to our safety plan throughout the year. This work is proactive and ongoing.

I want to be clear that I am not sharing this information in response to any specific incident. Rather, I believe it is important to communicate the responsibility I take very seriously and the trust families place in me and our staff each day to ensure that every child is safe, supported, and comes home safely.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

District Survey

As WCPS enters the second year of our districtwide engagement survey, we are again asking for your honest feedback. Your input helps WCPS measure our progress on the district’s five-year strategic plan. We need to better understand what is working well, and what needs improvement, in your school or department.

The survey asks about areas such as teaching and learning, student support, leadership, safety, and school culture. Your responses guide our work to strengthen both student learning and staff working conditions.

The survey takes about 15-20 minutes and is fully confidential. Sogolytics, an independent research firm, administers the survey so your answers cannot be connected to you. Please respond openly.

Your feedback is important as we continue advancing our schools and our workplace. After reviewing the results, WCPS will share key findings and our planned next steps.

Thank you for taking time to participate.

Office Reminders Office Reminders

EARLY PICKUP/LATE DROP OFF REMINDERS

  • LATE ARRIVAL

    • If you arrive after the 7:45am late bell, please bring your child into the building. For safety reasons, please do not drop your child off and leave the campus without checking in at the office.

    • Please scan your child’s student ID tag with the scanner in the lobby to check-in.

  • EARLY PICK-UP

    • Students must be picked up no later than 2pm to avoid dismissal and bus congestion. We appreciate your cooperation with this important matter.

NOTES FROM HOME/DR. NOTES

  • Please continue to use the yellow note pads when sending communication to school for your child’s teacher.

    • Please contact the office if you need more.

  • Please remember to send notes for any absences as well. Most doctor and dental offices will provide a note for visits if you request it. Notes are required for absences to be coded as lawful.

ABSENCES

  • Attendance calls will continue to be sent out every day for students that are not in school. Please remember to communicate with your child’s teacher regarding the absence.

  • Attendance letters will be sent out monthly after absences have reached six or more.

  • After a student has missed 12 days of school a doctor’s note is required for any future absences.

From the Counselor From the Counselor

February 2nd - 6th is NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELING Week!

The American School Counseling Association and school counselors nationwide use this week to promote the importance of the unique role of School Counselors in supporting students.

What Do School Counselors Do?

School counselors work with all students to help them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Counselors support students by:

  • Helping them develop positive attitudes about learning

  • Assisting with goal setting, motivation, and decision-making

  • Supporting social-emotional growth, friendships, and problem-solving skills

  • Providing short-term counseling individually and in small groups

  • Connecting families with resources

  • Collaborating with families, teachers, and administrators to support student success

School counselors help create a safe, supportive school environment where every child feels valued and prepared to learn. I am thankful to be part of such a caring school community and to work with families who are supportive and engaged!
