Please Update Your PowerSchool Information
As we begin the new school year, please take a moment to review and update your child’s information in PowerSchool. Be sure that your home address, contact information, and emergency/contract information are accurate and up to date.
This information is especially important for student safety. In the event of an emergency or if we need to reach you during the school day, we will use the contact and approved pick up information listed in PowerSchool. Please make sure that anyone you have designated as an approved pick up person is still current and that their contact information is accurate.
Thank you for helping us keep our records current and, most importantly, helping us keep our students safe!
Ask Your Student about Constitution Day with David Alcox!
We’d love to invite all of our JMUES Jaguars to join us for National Walk & Roll to School Day on Wednesday, October 7th!
It’s always a high-energy morning for our students and staff as we walk and roll to school together. Beyond just being a fun start to the day, it’s a great way to highlight some big wins for our school community:
Happy, active kids: Moving in the morning helps students burn off energy, focus better in class, and build healthy habits.
Cleaner air & safer streets: Fewer cars in the drop-off line means less neighborhood traffic, lower emissions, and safer roads for everyone.
Stronger community: Walking together gives parents, neighbors, and staff a chance to connect outside the classroom
We'll meet our students in the SAU parking lot at 8AM, then we'll walk to JMUES together along McElwain street rain or shine.

Tech Updates
Chromebooks will be locked down between the hours of 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM.
This week, 5th grade students received their new Chromebooks! Before taking them home, they participated in a “Chromebook Talk” with Mr. Goodman where he shared some important pieces of information using the acronym CHROME. Here’s the summary:
Charge Each Night - Students will work with their families to find a good, safe spot to charge their device each night. The charging cord stays home, but the device travels back and forth to school each day. Students who may travel between parent homes during the week can keep their cord in their backpack. *Helpful tip for students with siblings at home who also have a Chromebook: Add a sticker or label to your charger to help distinguish.
Handle with Care - Students learned the proper way to hold their Chromebook while moving from space to space. They were reminded that because they will have this Chromebook for the next four years, it’s important to keep it in the best shape possible.
Respect & Responsibility - Students learned the importance of showing responsibility by bringing their device to school each day charged and ready to go. Respect toward other people’s property was also discussed as students were reminded that they should never use another student’s Chromebook.
Online Use - Students learned that because these are school-issued devices, the district can view all of their online activity while using their Chromebook at school or at home. They learned the importance of staying safe and following teacher directions at school and parent/guardian directions at home.
Maintenance - Students learned about the importance of fully shutting down their device at least once a week. Shutting down allows for important updates to flow through and keep the device running smoothly.
Education - Lastly, students were reminded that these are school-issued devices for educational use. Students learned that while some sites or searches would be distractions during the school day, they could be fun and/or educational at home under parent/guardian guidance. Some examples shared were using the online resources/databases in ClassLink to search for information about their favorite animals or using safe Google searches with parent/guardian permission to research a favorite topic. Google docs, spreadsheets or slides could be used to organize events or for creative writing projects.
Device insurance is offered to all families for a nominal fee of $10. You can find all the pertinent information on the District Technology page on the District website and also on the front page of the JMUES website. Here’s a direct link: 26-27 Chromebook Insurance
Here at JMUES we use School Dismissal Manager to make changes to student's dismissals and to mark them as absent. SDM will go live on Wednesday, August 26th. You will receive an email from "James Mastricola Upper Elementary" that will include information on how to access your account. (Make sure to check your junk mail!)
Once you log in, set your student's "default dismissal". This is how your student will get home on a regular basis. Default dismissals can be set differently for each day of the week is needed.
If/when you ever need to make a change to your student's dismissal you can do so by creating an "exception". This will change your student's dismissal for the selected day and then return to the "default".
If you have any issues logging in or have any questions, please do not hesitate to give us a call in the main office: 603-424-6221

2026-2027 Traffic Patterns, Drop Off, and Pick Up
Student Drop-Off (8:25-8:40 a.m.):
To enhance traffic flow on the streets surrounding JMUES, families are encouraged to utilize bus transportation in the morning. Should your family choose to drive your student to school, please follow these procedures:
Morning drop off begins at 8:25 a.m. Parents/guardians are asked not to arrive before this time. There are no staff members on duty prior to 8:25 a.m.
Cars dropping off students will turn on to McElwain St. and drive to the second row of the church parking lot (see diagram on reverse side). They will then pull all the way down to School Street and stop at the beginning of the cross walk.
Cars dropping off students will turn on to McElwain St. and drive to the second row of the church parking lot. They will then pull all the way down to School Street and stop at the beginning of the cross walk. We strongly suggest that all students unload from the passenger’s side of the vehicle, and we ask that parents remain inside the vehicle while school staff assist students as-needed. Buses will pull forward to the corner of Bishop and School School Street. We will unload as many buses as safely possible when the bell rings at 8:25 AM. We ask families who are dropping students off to please allow students to exit their vehicles and move to the crosswalk at 8:25 AM, at which time a staff member will assist them as they cross School Street to enter the building.
To exit the drop-off area, cars will take a left at the cross walk onto School Street and proceed to Bishop Street where they will take a left driving toward McElwain Street.
Student Pick-Up (3:00-3:10 p.m.):
Parents/guardians are asked to park in a parking spot in the church lot and walk to the area at the end of the crosswalk on the parking lot side to meet their child.
Students being picked up, walking or riding bikes must have a parent note in the School Dismissal Manager app.
School ends at 2:55 p.m. We ask that if you plan to dismiss your child from school early, to please do so prior to 2:45 PM so that all staff can be available to perform dismissal procedures. Children with written permission to be dismissed as a walker will line up in their color team hallway to be checked off by school staff. Staff will then lead walkers to the Main Entrance doors and guide them across the crosswalk. Fifth grade walkers will be dismissed with the first wave of buses, and sixth grade walkers will be dismissed with the second wave of buses. We appreciate your support with this process as our goal is to ensure the safety of all.
Color Teams and Pods
Welcome to the JMUES family 5th graders and welcome back 6th graders! We would like to take a moment to explain how we organize our classes. We have six color teams in the building. The teams for fifth grade are red, orange, and yellow. The teams for six grade are green, blue, and purple. Within the color teams, there are pods. Pods consist of 2 teachers who share the same students. Students are grouped in pods by their homeroom, and they travel to different classes with the students in their homeroom class.

The JMUES website is a helpful resource if you have unanswered questions. We post all JMUES Newsletters for the year on the website so you can always view a previous newsletter.
Additionally, we post our calendar and important information about upcoming events, activities, and clubs.
