Family Newsletter : October 30, 2026
Dear Families,
Halloween is such a fun time of year! Thanks for coming out to our parade, supporting our parties and the Halloween Bash! We love our community!
Many thanks to Ms. Rebecca for the incredible work she does with our Orchestra Club! Her dedication, passion, and commitment to nurturing our students’ musical talents provide them with wonderful opportunities to learn, grow, and express themselves through music. We are so grateful for the time and energy she invests in making this experience possible for our students!
Ms. Suzie took the 7th and 8th grade students to visit Antelope Island to explore the importance of setting in literature through hands-on observation and creative writing. Students completed field journal entries, a Five Senses Setting Hunt, and a Setting Scavenger Hunt to examine the island’s unique environment. Connecting their experiences to the novel Holes, students compared Antelope Island to Camp Green Lake, selected a potential digging location, and identified three environmental obstacles they might encounter. Students concluded their experience by writing a descriptive 5–7 sentence paragraph using sensory details to bring the setting of Antelope Island to life.
Ms. Mikala provided engaging Red Ribbon Week lessons focused on making healthy choices, understanding the dangers of drugs and alcohol, resisting peer pressure, and developing skills to keep our minds and bodies healthy. Students explored the importance of making responsible decisions, setting personal boundaries, and standing up for themselves and others. Thank you, Ms. Mikala, for helping our students build the confidence and skills to make positive choices! You can view the lessons here.
November’s Character Education theme is Assertiveness! Being assertive means having the confidence to express our thoughts, feelings, and needs clearly, respectfully, and honestly while also respecting the perspectives and boundaries of others.
Throughout the month, students will explore the difference between passive, aggressive, and assertive communication. We will encourage them to advocate for themselves, establish healthy boundaries, ask for help when needed, and stand up for others.
Assertiveness is an important life skill that helps children develop independence, confidence, positive relationships, and a strong sense of self.
At home, families can reinforce assertiveness by encouraging children to use their voices, practice respectful disagreement, make decisions, and communicate their needs.
Our goal is to help students understand that being assertive isn't about getting your way; it's about making sure your voice is heard while respecting the voices of others.
Next Wednesday November 4th we have an FTA meeting. Please join us in the library or virtually at https://meet.google.com/vox-jfbd-rvt.
We also have a Spirit Night Wednesday from 4-9pm at Texas Roadhouse where 10% of profits will be donated to MMA when you show the flyer to your server!
Thank you for your community and support! Please continue to reach out with questions, and feedback! Have a safe and happy Halloween!

Upcoming Event : International Festival
Dear Families,
We are excited to invite you to our school's International Festival on Friday, November 20, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm!
This year's theme is "Peace Begins Here: Celebrating Every Culture." In a busy world, we want our school to be a place where every culture, every family and every voice is welcomed and celebrated. We would love for you to be part of it.
WHAT STUDENTS WILL DO
- Classroom exhibits: Students have been learning about countries around the world. Lower Elementary classes are each exploring a continent, Upper Elementary students are researching a country of their choice, and Junior High groups are preparing presentations and exhibits on the countries they selected.
- World tour: During the festival, Elementary students will visit classrooms to explore the exhibits.
- Food tasting: Each student will get to taste three dishes from around the world in our small gym.
HOW YOU CAN JOIN IN
1. Share a dish. We would love for families to contribute a dish or two from their culture or a country they love. Please sign up here: [sign-up link]
- Bring the dish in small, sample-size portions so every group gets a taste.
- Include a label with the dish name, its country of origin and any allergens (nuts, dairy, gluten, eggs, etc.).
- Please drop off food on November 20, before 1pm. You can also volunteer to serve the food.
2. Share your art, poetry, or anything else you'd like to share about your culture. Our south kiva will host an art and poetry exhibit open to students, families and staff. If you'd like to contribute a piece, please send it to Ms. Baleigh by the morning of November 19. You can contact her at bparker@mmautah.org
3. Perform. Do you sing, dance, play an instrument or have another cultural tradition to share? We would love to include parent performers. Please contact Ms. Ezzy at eservin@mmautah.org by November 16.
4. Volunteer. We need extra hands to help in the small gym on the day of the festival. Let us know if you're available.
Thank you for helping us make our school a haven of peace where every culture is celebrated. We can't wait to celebrate with you!
