Happy Spring from Seward Park Campus Library! Happy Spring from Seward Park Campus Library!

Students using the button maker in Spark Space.

If you've been the library recently, you'll notice that the front area has changed a bit! We are just on the cusp of inaugurating our new SPARK SPACE - a Seward Park Campus Library Makerspace. We've been doing a soft launch with classes to see how we can build projects around crafts. This Friday, our interns will be trained by MakerSpaceNYC who has been helping us to build out our space. Stay tuned for our official launch, but here's a taste of what's to come!

New Books have Finally Arrived! New Books have Finally Arrived!

Interns processing new books.

Because of an expired contracts, school libraries across the cities had to wait awhile to get their new books this year. We are happy to say that last week, we processed 15 boxes of new books for the library (and that's not even all of our order)! Come browse our "NEW ARRIVALS" which have been conveniently placed around the library so that you don't miss them!

Activate the Library with City Lore! Activate the Library with City Lore!

In partnership with City Lore, a NYC-based non-profit organization focused on the preservation of the immigrant cultures of NYC, and a grant from the Library of Congress, our library interns are working with teaching artist/activist, Yadira De La Riva to come up with passive programming stationed throughout our library to promote curiosity and exploration into the stories that are housed here. Through a mix of performance, oral recordings, photos, etc. students are creating little installations to put in sections of the library to help students dive deeper into a topic which interests them. Interns will be visiting the Museum of the City of New York to see how they cultivate passive programming through informative videos and realia and thinking about how to bring that into our library all in hopes to promote reading and curiosity.
