December Lifeline: HOPE December Lifeline: HOPE

Hope is about believing good things can happen in the future. It means thinking positively, setting goals, and taking steps to reach them. Hope isn’t just a “happy feeling”—it’s choosing to keep trying, even when things are tough.

People who are optimistic tend to explain challenges in a way that helps them keep moving forward. They think, “I can learn from this,” or “Things can get better.” People who feel more pessimistic might think problems are out of their control or won’t change.

When we practice hope, we look for possibilities, make a plan, and believe we can make progress—one step at a time.

It’s hard to believe we’re wrapping a bow around 2025 and the first semester—crossing the 50-yard line as we head into Winter Break! Many of us are looking at one another wondering, “Where did the time go?” The weeks have flown by, and our students have accomplished so much. We are excited to begin Semester 2 when we return on January 6, ready for a wonderful year ahead.

Team Meadow would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to the families and supporters who participated in PTO’s Adopt Team Meadow. Your generosity and thoughtfulness brought joy to so many—teachers, instructional assistants, custodians, café staff, bus drivers, and others who care for and support our children each day. We are truly grateful for your kindness, and even more thankful for the strong partnership we share with you on behalf of our students. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

A couple of PTO updates to note:

  • Next PTO Meeting: Tuesday, January 13, from 6:00–7:00 PM, followed immediately by a Bash Planning Meeting from 7:00–8:00 PM. The Bash—our annual community event and fundraiser—will be held on Friday, April 24. We’ll be discussing the theme, food, and reflections from last year. If you’re interested in helping plan, supporting the auction, or simply learning more, we’d love for you to join us!

  • Due to limited participation interest, PTO has decided not to purchase access/use Directory Spot (the school directory) this year. We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience.

As we head into the break, we wish your family a restful, joyful Winter Break. We look forward to welcoming students back on January 6, 2026, refreshed and ready to learn.

    All the best,
    Team Meadow, Tom & Jarrod

Thank you to all of our adopters and contributors!

A huge thank you to everyone who adopted and contributed to Adopt Team Meadow. Your generosity—both time and money—made it possible to shower our amazing staff with so many thoughtful gifts! The photos shared capture just a small snapshot of the wonderful items that were given to staff this week.

As co-organizers, we will be recording all donations received and will share a brief summary, along with a comparison spreadsheet from last year to this year, at the January PTO meeting.

Thank you so much for helping make this year special for our staff!

The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) - Kindy & 2nd grade The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) - Kindy & 2nd grade

The CogAT is a multiple-choice assessment administered to students in kindergarten and second grade. This is a computer-based assessment that measures reasoning skills with different types of verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal questions. The results of this assessment are used as part of our state required advanced curriculum and instruction identification that takes place later in the spring. After scoring has been completed for all students, toward the end of March, families will receive a report with student data. If you have any questions, please contact our school counselor, Kristi Sloan.

Boone Meadow kindergarten and 2nd grade students will be taking the CogAT during the week of January 20th.

Winter Weather Reminders Winter Weather Reminders

    User uploaded image
    zoom_out_map

With our recent winter weather, this is a good time to share a few reminders about procedures on snowy or cold days:

    • Two-hour delays: On delay days, we are unable to have outdoor recess due to the abbreviated day and adjusted schedules for related arts and lunch.

    • Snow play: Students must have proper snow gear (snow pants, boots, hats, gloves) in order to play in the snow. Students without full gear will still have access to games and playground equipment in the cleared/safe areas of the back lot.

    • Cold temperatures: We value fresh air, and students should be prepared for outdoor play if temperatures are above 10 degrees. Thank you for sending your child prepared for the weather.

    • Label your gear: Winter gear is easily misplaced, and names on items help us return belongings quickly. Our lost and found grows rapidly this time of year!

    Lunch Guests

We are ready to welcome lunch guests! Students and their guests will have lunch at designated locations in the front lobby area. Please no more than 2 guests per student due to limited space. So that others may have the opportunity, we ask that you not sign up more than 1 time per month. As we implement this new system/procedure, we will limit availability the first two weeks to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday visits.

    Here's how it works:

    • Sign up for a reservation in advance using this link: https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/BMELunchSchedule@zcsk12in.onmicrosoft.com/bookings/ When you sign up, please be certain to complete all fields requested.
    • Bring a photo ID and arrive 5 minutes early (lunch times are listed on the signup form link above).
    • Your child will meet you in the front office area when they are ready.
    • HAVE FUN!

Visitors and Volunteers Visitors and Volunteers

During the school day, all volunteers are expected to check in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer's first volunteer experience, the individual must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check.. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days before the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state-mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee for the full background check which will expire after 5 years.

During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government-issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.
