South Davis Shines
December 16, 2025
A Message from Mr. Dolce
Hello South Davis Families.
Thanks and congratulations to all of the musicians in band, orchestra, and chorus, along with Mrs. Comerford-Dormann, Mr. Kontrabecki, and Mrs. Glasgow, who made our Winter Concerts so lovely! And a big "Thank you!" to all the parents and guardians who encourage, transport, and support your developing musicians. It makes for an uplifting and rewarding experience for all.

It's hard to believe that 2025 is coming to an end. As we finish this week and move into our Winter Break, I want to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season.
If you are traveling, may everything be safe and uneventful (except the parts you want to be eventful 😉). If you are staying in Orchard Park and WNY, may you also have a pleasant and enjoyable experience.
Have a great week and wonderful break; Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy New Year!!
The next edition of South Davis Shines will be January 6. Thank you for your continued support.
We're all in this together!
Mr. Dolce

Updates and Reminders
Safety Reminders
It's very important for everyone's safety - students, parents, and staff - that parents adhere to these procedures at arrival and dismissal.
- Stay in your vehicle (except Pre-K parents). We can assist when necessary.
- Stay on sidewalks; do not walk in the Front/Bus Loop and do not approach buses
- Use the crosswalk to cross South Davis Street, even if you are parked by the dentist or the wood shop
- Follow the pick-up procedure - drive into the parking lot, around the back of the lot, and back onto the street. Do not jump the line.
- Students should only exit and enter vehicles on the passenger side.
Winter Weather Safety
At this time of year, it is a good idea to talk with your children about cold weather safety. Extra care is needed especially in younger children to be sure that frostbite does not occur.
- Make sure all children including teenagers have appropriate outerwear every day. Warm jackets, hats, scarves, boots, and an extra pair of gloves in their pockets will protect them during extremely cold temperatures.
- Develop an emergency plan and review it with your children in case you are not home either before or after school. If a bus is delayed, they need to know where, when, and how to get help. Tell your child that if you are not home while they are waiting outside for the bus, how long they may wait outside, where to go in the event the bus is delayed, and what the dangers and risks of extreme weather are.
- Advise your child to ask for help if they have:
- Wet clothing boots or gloves, snow or ice next to bare skin which cannot be removed.
- Pain or numbness or burning anywhere on their skin (especially hands, feet, ears, or nose).
- Teach your child:
- When to ask for help.
- Where to find safe shelter in an emergency.
- Who the designated adult is to go to in your neighborhood if the bus does not show.
- How to protect themselves with proper winter clothing.
PTO Connections
Winter Warm-Up Hot Cocoa Party ☕
The PTO has provided everything we need for our students to enjoy some hot cocoa (or an allergen-safe alternative) in their classrooms on Thursday, December 18.
Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help out!
Holiday House Charity Raffle
During our Holiday House gift card raffle, thanks to your generosity, the PTO was able to raise $140.00! The money was used to purchase seven $20.00 Walmart gift cards, which were given to the Family Solutions Center to be distributed to Orchard Park families.
Ann Linder from the Family Solutions Center shared:
"The gift cards make a meaningful difference in so many ways—from helping families with food, personal care items, and clothing to providing essential support during unexpected emergencies.
The positive impact of our collaboration is unmistakable. We see every day how your generosity uplifts and strengthens those we serve. Your partnership with the district is truly invaluable, enhancing the Family Solutions Center’s ability to deliver meaningful support to students and families. It is through caring collaborations like yours that we can continue making a lasting, positive difference in the well-being of our community."
