It's DOOR-2-DOOR week! Our Annual DOOR-2-DOOR Fundraiser will take place on Saturday, 1/31! This is a huge day for the Band program, and a big opportunity for us to maintain ties to our Winter Park community at large that we may not see at concerts or football games. Our program relies heavily on strong community support to be able to open doors to the kind of opportunities and experiences to our students that only being a part of a comprehensive high school band program can provide. Remember, this fundraiser is mandatory for all students in the Winter Park Band – concert bands, jazz ensembles, and color guard. Get your neighbors ready!
Only 2 weeks until both Jazz MPA for Jazz 1 & 2 and Solo & Ensemble MPA! Jazz 1 & 2's itinerary for Thursday, 2/6 is available on the Band website. Both the S&E Schedule and Freshman Jazz Band's 2/14 itinerary will become available soon.
Let's make it a great week!
Mr. Clemente
SOLO & ENSEMBLE - Two Weeks Until Performance!
WHAT'S NEXT:
As of this week, we are 2 weeks away from performance. From now until S&E in early February, students should have a copy of their solo and/or ensemble music in their folder for class each day. Students performing a solo for S&E MPA should already have their first rehearsal with their accompanist scheduled, or have already rehearsed once. Students who are performing in a chamber ensemble should have settled on a schedule of rehearsals for that ensemble already and have rehearsed at least twice. Most importantly in either case, once that schedule is set, everyone must do their best and stick to the schedule. Last minute deviations and schedule changes will not set you up for success at Solo & Ensemble.
Assignments this week:
Individual Check-Ins with Ms. O'Rourke and Mr. Clemente - Check-in #3 Grade in grade book
Wednesday, 1/28:
Solo & Ensemble Recital, 1:30 - 3 PM, Band Room
- Students with approved schedule conflicts
- Students who have been contacted by the directors
For those students using Mrs. Heather Langs as their piano accompanist, she will begin coming into school to rehearse with you on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday after school, and Thursday. Please have your piano accompaniment music ready for her when she arrives.

Thank you to everyone who joined the Q&A Zoom about Door to Door. If you missed it or thought of some question after the fact, feel free to send an email to Robyn Fodor or myself.
If you have checked your schedule and are unable to volunteer for D2D, please consider volunteering to wash marching uniforms. It will be the last time this year before we put them away until next marching season. Instructions and detergent are provided. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080A49A8AE22A02-61570176-uniform#/

**PARENTS: Something that has helped a ton in the past was having various parents post on their “Next Door” or “Neighborhood” app along with your neighborhood’s Facebook page about the fundraiser. Please use the graphic and QR code attached to this message on social media in the week leading up to the fundraiser. You may also want to include this link. The item will go live on Saturday, 1/24. https://ocps.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/46934/574/False/True.
Looking forward to a day of community and camaraderie building with our students and the residents of the WPHS attendance zone, while also supporting a bright future for the Winter Park Band!
From our Fundraising Coordinator
Hello Band Families,
Thank you to all the drivers that have signed up! It's going to be a fun, profitable day!
How does Door2Door work? It’s a well-organized, safe, and fun day. Our district is divided into walkable and drivable maps. Each driver is assigned an AM and PM route with at least four uniformed students. Students walk in pairs through the map area while drivers keep students in view. The police are aware of our presence, neighbors expect us, and everyone is briefed on safety. Lunch is provided between routes.
This is our biggest fundraiser and we’re excited to make it another record-breaking year!
Thank you for your support!

🚨 SATURDAY MORNING PARKING – PLEASE READ
Due to trailer use for the FAST event, ALL parking and drop-off must be in A Lot (teacher parking lot).
No parking or driving near the band room doors or trailer area.
This is critical for safety and smooth operations.
We are two drivers away from making this happen. If you’ve been waiting for the moment to jump in — this is it. Thank you to everyone who has signed already and we have an exciting Saturday ahead! 🧡🖤

"Step Up" Your Sound with Intermediate/Professional Instruments
This time of year, many families consider purchasing a higher quality instrument for their student. While the rental instruments or student instruments many students had during middle school served them well during that time, high school music and musicians need instruments with higher quality make and materials to continue to improve. Please especially do not buy an instrument for your student from discount websites like Amazon. We music teachers refer to instruments sold on those websites as ISOs - Instrument Shaped Objects.
If you are able and considering a "step-up" instrument for your student (sometimes referred to as "intermediate" or "professional" instruments by manufacturers), please feel free to reach out for guidance. We will be happy to point you in the right direction and give options for quality instruments at fair prices.

Music Shack - 702 S US Hwy 17 92, Longwood, FL 32750

Private Lessons - Invest in Your Future!
Whether a student is learning a musical instrument to pursue a career in music, or simply for personal musical fulfillment and recreation, private lessons are one of the best investments that a parent can provide for their musical child. When working with a private teacher, students receive one-on-one instruction from a professional musician who specializes on that instrument.
Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!
Below is a link to a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you are a private teacher who would like to be added to our list (or deleted), or know a private teacher who should be added, please contact Mr. Clemente at michael.clemente@ocps.net.
