Literacy Tip of the Week
Reading together is powerful, but talking about the story afterward helps children build comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills.
Try this at home: After reading a book, ask your child:
What was your favorite part?
Why do you think the character made that choice?
What do you think will happen next?
Does this story remind you of anything in your life?
Even a 5-minute conversation can strengthen understanding and confidence.
Remember: There is no "perfect" answer. Encourage your child to share their ideas and support them with details from the story. The goal is to think, discuss, and enjoy reading together.
Family Challenge: This week, read a story, article, or chapter together and have a "Book Talk" at dinner or during a car ride. Each family member shares one thing they learned, one question they have, and their favorite part of the reading.
Building strong readers starts with meaningful conversations!
