Impact at Every Moment
Keeley Elementary Parent Newsletter
First Day of School: August 10, 2026
Parents may walk their child to class on the first day of school. Students who plan to eat breakfast on the first day should do so before going to class.
Doors open at 7:30 a.m. If walking up, students will enter by the blue pillar doors. After 8:10, everyone must enter through the front doors.
Arrival and Dismissal
Parents must have dismissal tag or will need to go to the office with an ID.
Pre-K to 2nd Grade and siblings of Pre-K-2nd Grade Car Riders
Students will enter through the front door and proceed to their assigned area or breakfast. At 8:00 am, students may enter through the front and second grade doors. Dismissal is the same flow of traffic as arrival, but students will exit their grade level’s designated door. Pavilions are labeled by grade level. Follow the loop until you arrive at the pavilion that matches your student’s grade level.
Important: Drivers must display the student’s car tag at dismissal. Without a tag, you will be asked to check your child out from the front office with a valid ID. Students will enter and exit the passenger side of the vehicle.
3rd to 5th grade car riders (without younger siblings in Pre-K to 2nd)
Buses will need to enter the lot first at dismissal.
Third grade through fifth grade students will enter and be dismissed from the drive located off Princeton Road.
Enter and exit this drive via Princeton only.
Students will be dropped off and picked up near the gate entrance by the gym and cars will loop around and exit back onto Princeton Road.
Buses and Staff members will enter this same lot. Buses will enter before cars so they can be loaded and exit off the lot prior to car riders.
Important: Drivers must display the student’s car tag at dismissal. Without a tag, you will be asked to check your child out from the front office with a valid ID. Students will enter and exit the passenger side of the vehicle.
Parent Walk-ups (Parents park off campus and walk up)
Parents need their dismissal tag and will stand in line for their child.
Parents choosing to walk up and pick up their child will do so at doors by the blue pillars. There will be a designated line for Pre-K and Kindergarten and a line for 1st-5th grade parent walk-ups.
Parents must present the student’s tag. Without a tag, students must be checked out through the front office with a valid ID.
Parents may not park in the school parking lot at any time during arrival and dismissal. If you are walking up to pick up your student, you must park off campus, walk up with a dismissal tag, and get in the designated lines. If you have students in Pre-K and Kindergarten with older siblings, please stand in the Pre-K and Kindergarten line and we will call the older siblings from there.
Independent Walkers - Students will walk off independently without parents.
Staff members will escort independent walkers to the entrance on Liberty Grove. From there:
Students will walk left to be allowed to cross Liberty Grove or right toward the traffic light at Liberty Grove & Princeton. City Crossing Guards are stationed at Princeton and Liberty Grove and on Liberty Grove Road.
Bus - Parents are not allowed to park or walk through this lot off of Princeton.
All bus and daycare riders will be dismissed from the cafeteria gate.
Buses will enter via the drive off of Princeton Road. Full size school buses will enter the loop and then exit off of Princeton road. All other buses will enter via the drive off of Princeton Road, load, and exit onto Liberty Grove Road.
Rowlett Martial Arts and Bullitt students will be dismissed from this area, as well.

Apply to be a volunteer
We value all our volunteers and the work they do to help our school. For the safety of all students, we require potential volunteers who will work at any campus receive a background check by the Department of Public Safety (DPS), which is done through our online application.

Every student needs a badge
Starting in the 2026–27 school year, student ID badge requirements will expand district-wide:
- All students, including those in grades PreK–5, will be required to wear ID badges.
- Students must scan their badge when boarding and exiting a school bus, including for field trips.
We’re sharing this now so families have time to prepare for the new school year.
Every Garland ISD student — from Pre-K through 12th grade — is required to wear a student ID badge on campus. Badges are a core part of how we keep our schools safe, organized, and running smoothly every day.
Why badges matter
Your student's ID badge does more than identify them. It's a tool that supports safety and access across the school day.
On campus, badges allow staff to quickly verify that every person in a building belongs there. During an emergency or student reunification, this matters enormously. Badges also make everyday routines faster — cafeteria purchases, library checkouts, textbook access, and extracurricular participation can all be tied to a student's ID.
On the bus, badges serve as each student's boarding pass. Students scan their badge when getting on and off any district bus — including field trip transportation. Only students assigned to a route may board that bus. This gives the district an accurate, real-time picture of who is on board at all times.
Bus scanning & parent notifications
Our district uses the Stopfinder app to help parents track bus location. Badge scanning adds a new layer: parents will now receive a notification when their student scans onto or off of the bus. This means you'll know not just where the bus is — you'll know your child is on it.
Students must ride their assigned bus. If a student attempts to board a route they are not assigned to, they will not be permitted to ride.
What parents should know
- Badges must be worn daily. Make it part of your morning routine — badge on before heading out the door.
- No badge, no bus. Students without a badge will not be permitted to board.
- Lost or damaged badges: The first replacement is provided at no cost. Additional replacements are $5 each. Treat the badge like any other essential school item.
