Important Drop-Off and Pick-Up Guidelines

Franklin families, if you drive your students to and from school, please pay very close attention and be very cautious! Woodward gets extremely congested with cars and pedestrians in the mornings and afternoons. Please remember that students are NOT to be dropped off or picked up in the staff parking lots; we suggest that you find a spot about a block away that you consistently use for dropping off and picking up. It will cause you less stress and it will help with congestion and make it safer for students arriving on foot. Thank you!

Site Council Needs YOU!

Hey Parents and Caregivers! Want to get involved at Franklin? The Franklin Site Council is seeking new parent/caregiver members. The Site Council is composed of students, teachers, caregivers and admin (typically two of each) from Franklin. We work together to support the goals of the school and the District's improvement plan for Franklin. We meet on the second Monday of each month for one hour in the afternoon. Want to learn more? Please reach out to Holly Cook (cookholly@gmail.com) for information.

Meet the School Nurse!

Hi all! I'm Katie (they/them), the new school nurse at Franklin. The best way to contact me is by email at ksimeon@pps.net or by phone 503-916-5140, ext. 84352. As we get settled in, this is a reminder that if a student has a medical need or takes medication during the school day, including emergency medication, there are necessary forms to fill out. If you have access to a printer, you can find the forms here and bring them in. I'm excited for a great school year and looking forward to meeting those of you I haven't yet!

Community Care Day Thank Yous

Community Care Day, hosted by the Franklin PTSA, was attended by over 75 students and family members on Saturday, August 16th. THANK YOU to everyone who came out and worked hard for 3 hours to get the Franklin campus spruced up for the new school year! Taking pride in our school makes a big difference. A special shout out to three Franklin sports teams and their coaches and parents for supplying the muscle to move 5 enormous piles of mulch: Football, Ultimate Frisbee, and Boys Soccer! Thanks also to Honl Tree Care (a Franklin family-owned business) for donating wood chips.

Class Contributions and Fees

Families who can are asked to help contribute funds to classes and programs each year. Our operational budget does not cover all course supplies and costs, so we rely on contributions from families to enhance the classroom experience for students.

Classes that have optional contributions associated with them are listed on SchoolPay. Donations and payments for PE shirts (required for freshmen), athletic fees, event tickets, uniforms, library fees, sports passes, etc. can also be made through SchoolPay.

Schedule Change Information

Counselors are still working hard to ensure students' schedules are complete and accurate. Please note students must attend all classes listed on StudentVue until your counselor confirms your schedule has been changed either in person or via email. All missed classes will be considered unexcused.

Counselors are almost at the end of the course change timeline:

  • Week 3, September 8th-12th: 11th & 12th grade elective drop for TA/Study Hall only

All course drops made after September 12th will result in an automatic “WF” (equivalent to an F).

Attendance

Attendance is taken for every class period that meets on a given day. Please plan to report and excuse all absences in the way that best suits you:

  • Call the attendance office at 503-916-3543
  • Email franklinattend@pps.net
  • Have your student bring a note to the attendance office (located in the main office)
  • For full-day absences, you can self-report on ParentVUE (this does not work for tardies or partial-day absences)

ATHLETICS ATHLETICS

NEW: Athletic Spectator Guidelines

We are excited for fall sports and with league play starting this week we anticipate an increase in spectator attendance. Below are a few reminders for our spectators when attending events on a PPS campus.

No Large Bag Policy: As per PPS policy, large bags/backpacks are not allowed inside the facility while attending events on PPS property. At park fields, this rule does not apply. Some school sites will be able to offer a bag check, while others, due to site location and other factors, will not. Please be prepared for both options as you travel through league games this year. In the preseason, many other conferences also have this policy and will not offer a bag check option.

Admission: We will be charging admission in the following sports across the district: Football and Volleyball in the fall, and Boys and Girls Basketball in the winter. We will not charge at the lower levels, however the ticket booth will open one hour before the varsity contest.

PIL Single Game Ticket Prices:
Football: Adults $7, Students $5
Volleyball: Adults $7, Students $5
Soccer: No charge
Cross-Country: No charge for league meets; offsite invitationals might charge admission

Athletics Passes: This year, the PIL is offering athletic passes to be purchased through Gofan.co. These passes are accepted at all league events. These passes do not get you into preseason games outside the PIL.

Outside Food: Outside food or drink will not be allowed at our athletic contests. Some sites will have concession stands open for food purchases.

No Re-Entry:
Once a person enters the game, we are not allowing anyone to leave the event and return.
This policy is for both students and adults.

Spectator Conduct: It is of the utmost importance that we conduct ourselves with the highest level of sportsmanship towards visiting schools, athletes, fans, and officials. The PIL is seeking to provide the best experience possible for everyone that attends our athletic contests. What makes these events fun and enriches those participating is when all of us do our part regardless of the outcome. Should any concerns arise, please seek out event workers, administration, or security personnel to help resolve any issues. We appreciate your support in advance when attending athletic events.

Looking forward to seeing you in the stands this year.

NEW: Game Schedules

Because game schedules are subject to change, sometimes with short notice, we don't post them here. Please bookmark this page that is kept up to date. This information is also posted in Trivory for your convenience.

Franklin Ultimate’s JV coach is hosting a meeting with new players who want to check out what it’s all about on Wednesday, September 3rd from 4:00-5:00pm at Clinton Park lower area near the basketball court/softball diamond (look for frisbees flying). Meet and greet some current Franklin players, learn to throw, and play some introductory games. Please reach out to franklinultimatepdx@gmail.com if you’re interested in attending or have questions about our program, or just show up!

As we are a co-ed sport, female players are highly encouraged to join. We have JV and Varsity squads, a dedicated coaching staff, and we always have a lot of fun. Practices are Mondays and Thursdays and league games are Sundays in the Fall.

We’d love to meet you and introduce you to your new favorite sport!
